A buyer has two goals.

1) Buy your book
2) Pay less than you want him to spend

So YES, grading is highly subjective and in a negotiation, I would fully anticipate buyers having a different opinion on your book grade. But that's why you use a grading service like CBCS, which is recognized as one of the authorities in grading. A grade from them is generally accepted by buyers around the world, and is essential to giving you more power as a seller.

Yeah, it's one of our goals for this year. We need to get the site stable again after our site crash, and then we'll turn our eyes there.

Yeah, just report the posts for now. We're going to introduce a filter today that will filter out any threads with foreign characters in them. That should eliminate this wave of supposedly South Koreans who have found us

We just pushed up a couple updates aimed at killing the spam robots. We're also finishing up an email verification system to help stop them from signing up in the first place.

Hopefully tonight is "All Quiet" as I know the last few nights have been "All Noisy" upset

Curious, why no money orders?

There's also very little recourse for you to dispute payment if something genuinely goes bad. Once it's cashed, it's gone

Water damage is always serious but like anything else, it depends on exactly what was damaged. Corners got wet and curled but majority of book was dry? Less severe than mildew/full color running/badly damaged pages.

Grading isn't a simple scale where you subtract X points for water damage, X points for missing page, etc. Each book is viewed as a complete piece and all of the aspects of the book are considered in total to arrive to a grade.

That's why professional grading is time consuming and the people who do it have done it for years. Takes a skillful eye to be a good grader.

Why Can't an Iphone access any comics?????

There is an odd bug with a specific version of iPhones and a specific build of Safari for that iPhone that we've never been able to isolate. Every iPhone in our office works flawlessly, but we get this report enough to know there's something weird out there.

The current workaround is to download the Google Chrome web browser for iPhone and use that to access CPG. It works in Chrome, just not the native iPhone browser.

Please contact me at shawn@comicspriceguide.com. We have no indication that our site has been breached and I'm curious where you're finding your information. We take security very seriously and would absolutely notify our memberbase if we feared they were compromised.

Now Recruiting New Administrators and Moderators

Greetings!

ComicsPriceGuide.com has always been successful primarily because it relies on its community to help ensure that our database is accurate, up-to-date, and contains the most relevant information. As the comics industry has grown, it has become increasingly difficult for our small team of administrators and moderators to keep up with variants, cover scans, and book story data, so we have a number of big changes coming soon that will make our research and information publication processes more transparent and will invite all members to participate.

In order to help us launch and moderate these new features, we're now seeking new comic expert administrators and moderators who can aid with reviewing site changes and engaging the community at large. We are seeking CPG members for the following roles:

Forum Moderator
Help bring back some of the spark to the forums and drive conversation and engagement with the members, and ensure rules are properly enforced.

Pricing & Valuation Research Assistant
Work directly with our pricing & valuation team to research and publish price changes on books across the system.

Site Administrator
Review submitted book facts, creator data, and stories to check for correctness and publish to the front site. Add missing issues, publishers, variants, and cover scans.

One of our big goals heading into 2017 is to open up additional lines of communication with our community and in order to do that, we need the help of talented comic enthusiasts to ensure our massive database continues to grow with only relevant, correct information for new books (and old ones!).

If you're interested in learning more and applying for any of these positions, please visit this page here.

If you have any questions, please use the form here.

Thank you!

Recent Cover Image Outage

Greetings!

As you may have noticed, this past weekend we struggled with some issues with our cover scans. Without getting too deep into technical jargon, there was an issue with our third-party image host related to an update they made which unfortunately borked our images. We have that all patched up, and have their assurances that we're sailing forward.

Thanks to all who wrote in to alert us to the outage. We're a small team, but we value and read all messages you send us and they are often helpful for us to fix the problems on the site when they (unfortunately) do occur.

We're also working to improve our communication processes and bring aboard new moderators and administrators who can help assist us with staying in touch with the community. We do not treat your decision to support us lightly, and work tirelessly around the clock to try to improve the site and provide you with the best comic experience possible, but we recognize that sometimes leaves very little time for us to communicate on the forums. We're trying to do better!

If you wish to apply to be a moderator and help us get these forums back to their former glory, please read this post here.

Thanks all!

Very early in the mornings we sometimes run maintenance that can slow down the site or make some things temporarily unavailable. I'll check and see if maybe that's what happened here. Thanks for the heads up.

We're a small team. We were just as crushed as you guys by the data loss and it's an unfortunate lesson we continue to pay for and learn from. We could definitely use some help getting the community active again and if you're passionate about bringing it back, please consider applying to be an admin or a moderator here.

I will be reaching out to all applicants this week to begin structuring our team and making a path forward.
