"Raw" Prices vs. "Graded" Prices

I ONLY HAVE ONE CGC GRADED COMIC, WHICH WAS A GIFT FROM MY GUY; BUT MOST OF MY COLLECTION HAS BEEN BOUGHT RANDOMLY THROUGH THE LAST 20 YEARS. I ALWAYS WENT FOR WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE AND I ALWAYS LOOKED FOR EITHER SETS OR THE FIRST FEW OF ANY COLLECTION. YOU NEVER KNOW, AND I DO WHAT I CAN TO JUST KEEP THEM AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. I AM ONE WHO DOES NOT MIND BUYING A MIXED UP BOX OF RANDOM GOODIES, BUT I DON'T JUST GO BUYING THEM FROM ANYWHERE. I USUALLY COME OUT WITH A NICE COLLECTION PER BOX IF I BUY THEM |

Unrealistic pricing on books for sale

That is why i like to verify my prices for any comic i own or plan to buy, just so i am not getting ripped off and i am not asking some stupidly ridiculous price. i am not aiming to sell anything i have at the moment, but if i am lucky, they will still continue to grow in some ways; especially when the quality of comics are starting to falter as they continue to be mass produced so regularly. i miss the old paper pages and vintage hand drawn art and processing; now its all digital and you can buy them online as e-comics now like the e-books. i love owning my collection and searching for actual comic books. there is no value with those stupid e-comics and if you loose all your back up or data, then what; or a crash on a server; or even a hacker. no thanks, i will stick to what i do best, collect actual items, not imaginary |

I too carefully look through new comics on the shelves to find the nicest one, if they are still worth it and i also carefully read (sometimes not at all) before i sleeve and back my comic and place it nicely into my boxes. my collection is carefully handled and if i do not think you are careful enough to look at my collection, i will say so and ask you NOT to touch them sorry, the nerd in me has been doing this for over 2 decades since i was a teen and i'm in my 30's. i judge no one for caring for any collection, its what brings me peace and joy |

WHEN I AM NOT NERDING OUT ON MY COMIC COLLECTION OR MOVIES; I'M USUALLY GARDENING WITH MY BETTER HALF, DOING CAR/ENGINE WORK, I LOVE TO GET TATTOO'S BUT THAT HAS TO BE BUDGETED WE ALSO GO HIKING, CAMPING, BOATING, FISHING, AND IF THE SEASON IS GOOD AND MY FUNDS ARE FLEXIBLE I LOVE TO SNOWBOARD. PRETTY BASIC STUFF, SO I SQUEEZE IN WHAT TIME I CAN TO DO WHATEVER THE DAY ALLOWS ME AFTER WORK. YOU KNOW LIFE, KIDS AND WORK TAKE MORE OF THAT TIME THAN ANYTHING I GAME OUT, BUT ONLY ON VERY FEW GAMES. I'M NOT HORRIBLE AT THEM EITHER, THEY JUST MAKE ME VERY "ANGRY" AND SOMETIMES I SWEAR I COULD HULK OUT ON THEM; BUT THEN I'D HAVE NO TV LATER, LOL. |

I am a collector and reader of my collection, but if i get an autograph i usually do it for myself on a particular comic, or i get it for collector purposes, knowing i met the writer, creator, artist, colorist, etc. usually i try to have proof if anyone were to question because i am not a person going for any fake anything in my collection. i think that they can bring value, but it is all up to the collector that is seeking them out. i still purchase autographed comics or get them autographed, but i am very picky though i can completely understand the argument of keeping them untouched and in top condition as well though. i guess it all depends on each collector. |

i wouldn't rule out the cross over of x-men/avengers because there are many x-men members that become avengers in the future; ahheemm wolverine..... anyways, i have not seen the movie yet, but i have my own reserved opinions on it because they are reintroducing characters in different ways and at different times than they originally were in the comics and cartoons. we saw jubilee back in the first movie, but didn't really care, but now there is a new person coming to as jubilee; and now they intro psylock with young storm, young nightcrawler and storm ( if anyone remembers the second xmen movie when they apparently first met then....) any ways, then you have no gambit still and he was once a key member in the original... and i won't get back into the quicksliver thing, but if anyone recalls, no one ever referred to the avengers maximof as quicksilver, so connecting the two maximof characters in the future from xmen and avengers would be ok. back then, i'm sure magneto had more than one lady friend no dissin on any characters or movies, i am just refreshing on some things is all. but i am excited no matter what to see the future BLACK PANTHER, ANT MAN/WASP, INFINITY WARS, AND SO ON any other opinions out there? i love this stuff!!! |

ok, so movie or not i'm more in reference to the new revelation of Captain America being a Hydra agent all along?!!!! the fact that they reveal such a patriotic american symbol and turn it into the double agent of our greatest enemy is no surprise. i mean, yes in the comic sense, but in general topic/discussion/symbol i totally see them turning all that is good into something unimaginably horrific....that is cinema for you and our system of everything. eh, i take it as it comes, but why must everything have an evil underlying purpose.....well.....that's because we need something so bad to give ourselves better value. at least that is my opinion of those in the publicity and entertainment business...and government..definitely the government |

i like to go into my local comic shop and purchase a box of 100 comics for $20 and sort through them. not all of them come out fantastic looking, but i find a few goodies hidden away and normally they do come in very decent condition. i instantly sleeve and back the ones worthy of packaging. i also go looking for specific items as well, so my collection does not consist of just extras or left overs of another's collection. i also prefer looking for the older comics because the newer stuff is just not as appealing to me like it used to be. i don't mind finding a new series and not all the art work is terrible, i just miss the paper pages and the appeal the age of the comic holds it's a nostalgic thing, lol, plus it's what i collected when i started over 20 years ago in short, there is nothing wrong with buying comics in lots, just double check if its from a private collection or a shop. shops tend to keep their stuff in better condition, unless you find a fickle collector |

just like special appearances; variant covers can vary in value. there are several printings now of many different comics, such as the walking dead. depending on the artist popularity and skill, what they reveal/create, how many prints were issued during that run, and if they were released as a special edition to a convention of sorts or as a special release. when i too started collecting my comics, i never collected them for value purposes (maybe a little now) and all i wanted was to have some of the coolest comics in my own personal collection. now, like i just mentioned, i view its value differently when i am collecting; although i am restricting myself to sets or issues i have been looking for as of late, but i had fun at my run of box sets from the shops |

I find it a little fun to collect a few variant covers, but i am not going to go out of my way to obtain them; unless it is an item i do actually wish to own i end up with numerous variant covers just by accident and i archive them like all the rest of my comic books. unfortunately, some variant covers are just ridiculous to try and obtain by any means. I get that value is what people look for in comic books now instead just the comic book itself; but some people have an absurd view on what they think their items are valued at or worth. you price anything too high, all it will do is collect dust where ever you have it stored. price it fairly, you have a way better chance at getting any value from it, if that is all you are looking to do. just random comic book collector/seller advise. |

the difference between graded and raw is; raw is the purchased off the shelf and stored however the buyer pleases, and graded is when you send off your comic book(s) to be professionally graded, evaluated, and encased to ensure quality and protection to a more expensive piece. Do your best to price out your comic book first before paying to have it graded because it is only worth it if you have the money and/or you already know the comic book is worth boosting its value for sale or collection purposes hope that is helpful. |

Tomoe and SHI Comic question
lealew7
|
if anyone here is familiar with the independent comics Tomoe and SHI, I have an interesting question regarding Tomoe issue #1. The inner cover states that it is in fact listed as comic book SHI: way of the warrior #6. Now how does one actually look this up, grade or price check it, and was this meant as a crossover that was not quite clearly explained cover wise, or is this a misprint for this issue? it says its a Prelude, but the actually issue for SHI way of the warrior #6 came out in 1994, while the first issue of Tomoe#1 came out in 1995. I just wanted to know how this worked. I never noticed it before and it is part of the first set of comic books that i started collecting when i was younger, i just now am categorizing and noticing things much closer as i've gotten older. any clue as to why this issues inner cover is printed like this would be awesome and appreciated for clarification
Thank you! lealew7 |

grading is only worth it if one: you have plenty of money to play with and grade anything you want; second is only because you know its worth the money to spend on that comic book. not to mention, if it is worth grading, it will boost the value if it's condition is quiet well |
