Are these Golden Age Comics worth restoring?

Hi guys, I have some extremely low grade golden age comics and I'm wondering whether they're worth paying out to restore or whether the cost of doing so would outweigh the value of it completed. I only took an image each of these as they're very fiddly to get in and out of bags due to there being so many tears that if i'm not careful i could end up doing a lot more damage to them. Because a lot of the pages are scuffed and out of place I have left them on poly bags as opposed to trying to squeeze them into golden age comic bags as again, I did not want to damage them, but I put some golden age backing boards in the bag to try and steady them a bit.
Superman #47

Batman #44

Sadly it's the Batman that's in quite worse condition which is a shame as it's a particularly nice and desirable cover. I've not braved looking through the entire inside to check its completeness but I'm guessing nonetheless these are both 0.5's overall, I did brave checking the pages briefly though and again it's the Batman that's in considerably worse condition, the Superman surprised me with better pages than i was expecting but the Batman has dark stains over some parts of pages, maybe fungus or staple rust. There's also tape on the sides, I think the backs are pretty torn up as well. I can take these out the bags and give more thorough photos if you like but if it's a forgone conclusion just looking at these pictures I'd sooner not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, whether it would be worthwhile getting these restored or if not whether there's any special slips etc I should put these in to help preserve them better. Thanks in advance!

Thanks!

I reckon a $1000 outlay especially just for the one comic (or about £775 in my money) is quite a bit out of my league, not to mention a restored issue would likely not be worth around the outlay though even if it is upgraded to a 7.0, which I do highly doubt with the Batman anyway. The Superman is in fairly better nick comparatively so that's likely more doable, but that comic isn't worth as much as the Batman in an equivalent grade.

Is there a way I would merely be able to preserve the books (remove the tape that's likely in the long term harming it), stop any more degradation in their condition and perhaps be able to store them better than merely in poly pockets (atm they are too big for mylar or comic poly bags due to the ruffled pages), not sure whether they would be worth getting slabbed or not in this relatively poor condition.

I'll try and post some more detailed photos tomorrow or some time to give you a better idea of what their condition is!

Definitely move them to archival bags, there are many sizes that will fit.

Yeah, a better bag and if available board also would be good, I'm not sure what sizes i would need and the terminology to find them though, as the largest bags i know of are standard golden age bags and they're too small for these

BCW offers magazine size bags. They would be large enough. I have quite a few rolled GA Batman and Detective and I use the magazine bags and boards.

Thanks, I searched on ebay and found some options, won't be able to get them in mylar in the UK but at least I'll be able to get some standard polly's which are better than nothing! I'll go on ebay and get some of those later, thanks for the advice

Right so, I've on and off casually collected comics for a number of years, but have seriously gotten into collecting this year and have accumulated quite a collection, mostly Golden and Silver Age. I got mylar bags for my comics as I want to protect them from ageing and store them well, my golden ages are in regular poly bags as I like to keep those in toploaders, and to begin with i didn't anticipate on getting very many raw golden ages at all, but later on I received some silver books in what i assume must be golden age size mylars which don't fit in toploaders, so I have just left my golden ages in poly bags (eventually i want to get these graded, but I live in the UK so it's even more hassle than it would be in America). The next size up in toploaders would be magazine size, which i got a few from a seller that delivered their comics in them, and they don't fit in my storage box so they're out of the question.

Now here's the main area of bother, my silver age and few bronze ages I have, I bought silver age size mylars, and also some mylite2 standard size, which are exactly the same as the other silver age mylars i got, but I've since heard that most collectors like to keep their comics in larger bag sizes, such as mylite's golden/silver or just golden age bags in general. I've already got around 100 or so books in mylar, so it would be fairly bothersome to replace all the bags and boards, my main question is does keeping silver age books in standard size/silver age size mylar bags, which can be minorly tight but fit in fine, damage books, or is it more just some collectors personal preference to give books a little more breathing room?

Thanks in advance for your response

Finally got some magazine bags for them, they fit in just fine, glad i actually got standard poly bags instead of mylar because they allow much more breathing room.

Looking for advice

It depends entirely on what issues, what era's, what titles and what conditions the books are in I'd say. If they are golden age, early silver age, key issues or significantly high grade comics, Heritage Auctions would potentially be the way forward, if you live in America at least. I don't recommend an auction house that doesn't specialise in comics, I got absolute bargains from those when buying. Other than that, maybe either sell things on ebay or to a local comic shop, ebay would probably be preferable as you have a wider reach and don't need to take the shop owners profits into account when selling, although with that option you would need to know which comics to sell separately, which comics to bung in job lots, and it'd be better to have an idea of what sort of grade/condition the books are in whilst listing them.

I don't have any real expertise here, but personally I have not found that it damages books as long as it's just 'tight' and not causing any wrinkles or anything. But I would also weigh the value of the books... if they are really valuable, it may be worth the time invested time to just get them in the right sized bag.

I'd say they're only tight, no wrinkles, I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow of some examples, there is some variation.

Most of my most valuable books are the golden ages in poly bags and toploaders, maybe I'll get some larger bags depending on the value of some of my most recent acquisitions especially, I got a joblot of early silver age green lanterns and need to grade them
