Thanos has been taken by the Cosmic Ghost Rider to King Thanos, a much older version of himself. He stares into the powerful, haunting eyes of the Ghost Rider and sees the vilest acts of his torturous life. Instead of being forced into despair by his depravity, Thanos views them as his fondest memories.
King Thanos sits down for breakfast feasting on the entrails of something or someone. Thanos notices the empty seat at the end of the table that has been saved for Mistress Death. King Thanos has no idea where she is, even though he has given her so much death. The old Thanos believes that if he can kill one more being, the Fallen One, that Death will be his.
As King Thanos prepares himself for battle, Cosmic Ghost Rider asks if Thanos wants to help him feed the dog. The dog is an extremely old version of Hulk. Ghost Rider tells about how he changed over the millions of years that he spent with Galactus and Thanos. He introduces himself to Thanos as Frank Castle.
King Thanos lays a black rose before the altar of Death while the younger Thanos rushes in demanding action. The older Thanos threatens his younger self with death by the flaming sword of Doom, formerly known as Surtur’s Twilight. Younger Thanos is disappointed in his older self because he is still in love with Death. King Thanos points out that he was ALWAYS in love with Death, no matter how he currently imagines things.
The Fallen One arrives with a massive explosion that destroys part of the temple to Death. The Fallen One is a darkened Silver Surfer followed by hordes of creatures.
