Here are some details that you may find important. (I find them critical to this discussion)
1. On average we add 3000 books per month to the database 2. On average we make hundreds of price changes for raw books each month. (even more if you count graded that aren't shown on the recent value change page) 3. On average we answer hundreds of customers each month 4. We offer a free app and free use of our site to thousands of collectors. 5. Since we have such a large database we require a programmer to keep your data safe and running properly.
If you are a paying member you pay $1 per week for this service. I understand that you want your submissions approved but there is limited staff and budget. For $1 you are getting a steal.
Please compare us with a $7.99 new comic Or with CGC cheapest grading cost of $20 plus a membership fee ranging from $25 to 300. Or with Ebay's ridiculous 10% fees on everything you sell. Or with other "guides" that flood you with ads and interfere with your experience.
We are the best value in the comic book industry. |

I've enjoyed this show. Especially episode 4 when everything turns into something else. The sitcom facade starts to crumble and reality intrudes on the scene. It seems like it will end sadly for Wanda. Overall, it's well done and I love the call back to other Marvel shows/movies. Detective Woo doing card tricks that he learned in the Ant-man movie was fun.
Is there a bigger point to this show? Is the sitcom and the fake lives seen on them being exposed as insanity? |

No problem, questions are good. 1. Comics Price Guide is insured. 2. Yes, you could drop them off in person but we would still need a packing slip of the books. 3. Yes, we have several pictures of before and after. Send me an email at ron (@) comicspriceguide.com 4. Depending on the number of submissions. Ron |

Comic Book Pricing Trends
RonbatmanAdministrator
|
Obviously, we look at comic book values all the time. I've started to notice some trends so I'm going to throw this out there to our regular forum visitors.
1. Some sellers are pushing the values for 9.8 graded books way up. We are seeing a tremendous rise in that specific grade. We try to throw out the extraordinarily high values but most sites don't. On the Amazing Spiderman issues that we have been working on, our 9.8 is usually lower than other price guides. We believe that they are artificially inflating the market. 2. In the 9.4 grade sometimes the value for raw and graded are the same. Sometimes the raw is higher. Sometimes the graded is higher. There is real value in finding a graded 9.4 in the market today. 3. We have been raising the values on the mid and lower grade books as the top end continues to blow the roof off. So even if the 9.4 raw drops that doesn't mean that your 7.5 dropped in value. 4. We are seriously considering removing the 9.9 and 10 from our price guide since it encourages false value for some collectors. There are so few of these books and their prices vary so dramatically that we believe it hurts us instead of helps us by adding them. 5. We will not be adding any grade for coverless books. 6. Key books continue to rise exponentially faster than regular issues. At some point, the price difference will become ridiculous and collectors will see the value with regular issues or 2nd or 3rd appearances. 7. The market focuses intently on a few books at a time. Other important issues are ignored in the hype train but for smart collectors, there are great values everywhere.

Comic Book Pricing Trends

We are not saying that graded 9.9 and 10 don't exist. We are saying that we are seriously thinking about removing them. Now we would add them for specific requests. There are certain books like Batman Damned that can grade a 10. However, the vast, vast majority of comics, well over a million of the books we have on the site don't have any 9.9's or 10's. The pricing for them is difficult because they rarely sell and the numbers are so astronomical that it makes you wonder if it's a real sale or a fake to inflate the price. They are super rare. We list them like they are commonplace and that's why we would remove them.
The coverless books have value to some people especially key Golden and Silver age books but we aren't going to add them. They have always existed in the hobby but no one lists them. In my personal opinion, I think CBCS added it to differentiate itself from CGC, which is totally fine. Their business strategy doesn't force us to add it because they created a new grade. I know this is disappointing to some but we cannot satisfy everyone.
Regarding the algorithm discussion, we are constantly changing things and that includes pricing structures. Take a look at Amazing Spiderman 129 https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/amazing-spider-man-the/129/yluqo

If you have a submitted variant that shows up, please don't resubmit it. We get people that resubmit each week until it's approved. That wastes a lot of time when we are going through the variants and it makes the admins who approve them think you're impatient.
If someone has claimed your listing, you can reach out to them. Send them a message on the site, thanking them and ask how it's going. That's totally fine. Last week I spoke with ScottWesty and Trduchien about the unapproved variants and they are working on them. I saw that over 125 were knocked off the list since Thursday. R |

Cover scans: Stock vs. Custom if selling
RonbatmanAdministrator

The system is working properly so it has to be something else. I checked your settings and you have "show my cover scans" checked. Which is good. So the only other thing that it can be is the image. There are three things that might cause an issue with the image. 1. Too large of a file. 2. Too large dimensionally 3. Wrong format type
Try changing those things and let me know. R |

Just so all of you know. We are very reluctant to make big changes without tons of advanced work. Every change we make affects someone's collection. So if we decide to remove the majority of 9.9 and 10.0 we will filter through the graded 9.9 and 10 that are in someone's collection. Those will remain in place so there is no worry of losing issues. If you have a raw 10 or 9.9 those would be bumped down to a 9.8. To say it again, we are seriously thinking about it not 100% doing it. |

Storage and grading information help.
RonbatmanAdministrator
|
If the books have been stacked in a closet there are good and bad things associated with that. The good part is that they will have great coloring since they were kept in the dark. The bad is that if they were stacked without bags and boards the spines are probably rolled. (spine roll shows more of the white from the back cover as the book shifts)
Google local comic shops near you and buy some bags and boards or go online and buy them.
CGC and CBCS are the two main grading companies. Both will do a great job of preserving the book but CGC tends to be worth more but also costs a bit more.
Pressing or cleaning - Both grading company do this but the lead time is usually months. A customer recently said it was 4.5 to 5 months wait. We press and clean books here at Comics Price Guide with a 2 week lead time. I posted about it on the announcement forum. I hope that helps. Ron |

We are currently working on a personalized value update page for paying members. On this page, you will see only the books that you own that have risen or fallen in value. You will still be able to see the recent value page with all updates, just not on the personalized page. We will be adding a new link for personalized updates and of course, I'll announce it on the forum and on Instagram.
About the sales listings - We will not be making changes to your sales listings. We feel like that isn't our job and this is why. If the price drops, you will blame us for changing your price downward. Some people don't price at our listing price, they might go 10% less or more. We already let you sell for less than any other site like Ebay, Heritage, Comic Link, etc. We can give you a little help with this though. We will add "you have this item for sale" to the right so that you know it needs attention. (if you choose to adjust it) Ron |

I can help, I think.
The sales portion of the site has sales every day. It is active and lively. We aren't as big as eBay obviously but we save sellers a ridiculous amount of money. I personally know sellers who make their entire living, selling here. Other sellers choose to use this as a way to improve their eBay sales. Still, others sell a few extras. The vast majority of the work with sales is automated so we don't usually have a hand in it. I step in when there is a problem that the buyer and seller cannot resolve. (Always use Paypal) |

Did someone light the Batsignal?
You cannot put one book in multiple boxes. It was originally designed to mimic the real world. Enabling people with large collections to easily find their books or for collectors to organize by anything. (date, author, artist, title, etc) I think the idea is interesting but it would have to be done differently. Each book has an individual identifier (database necessary) For example Marvel Action: Avengers #1 uses this number 1150385 to differentiate it from any other book.
You could add the book into your collection twice and then put it in a second box. Your collection totals would be off but that would accomplish your goal. R |

Bizarre Darth Vader #3 Sales

So during my research for Darth Vader #3 Retailer Incentive. https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/darth-vader/3-RI/pjuuotp
I'm finding the raw 9.4 more than double the graded 9.4. We are shocked by this but there is sufficient evidence to show that it's happened over and over again. This totally messes with our pricing and collectors' mind. Please be patient with us as we try to figure this one out. So if the pricing on this book looks super weird to you as I continue to adjust it, understand that we are trying to display the market, not our preconceived notions that graded is worth more. Ron |
