So today I was going through my Walking Dead titles and was looking up issue 1 only to see there are 73 different variants! I know different variants are huge these days from events to reprints, and Retail incentives...but wow. What was the most variants you all have run across for a single issue?

Detective 1027 has 56. I have 47 of those. There may be more retailer exclusive I may have missed but this is by far the most of one single issue I own. Thank goodness for comic store discounts.

There are a couple issues on the site that have over 100 variants. Amazing Spider-man 666 and Batman 50 are the ones that pop into my head.

One of the IDW Godzilla books had a few hundred variants. The majority were store copy variants where the cover was the same but the name of the comic store in the background carried the name of the store that bought into the variant run. Most of the main character DC's have one variant cover per issue so that adds up after a while.
Variant is largely a marketing scheme now since people like to tie it to scarcity even though it but a small fraction of a larger print run. Now later printings are deemed variants. Pretty much anything is a variant now since it is such powerful marketing tool.
