Spirit covers have a lot going on. HEY!!! That's an ape cover
I've got a SDCC#2. For being some well known, Don Martin doesn't have many covers. Found my copy in a quarter box. There's some major comic star contributing to that book - lots of potential. Right now, the big draw is the Hellboy sneak preview. |

Your best bet is to check online. eBay is a good place to start to see what is for sale and what is actually selling. Yep. The nonsports glut was about the same time as the 90s comics glut. Some won't even sell at $2 for an unopened box - most series by Pacific Cards and the various Desert Storm sets come to mind.
There are some high demand cards. Mostly not... |

Netstuffers, thanks for removing the alert box. Question: Is there a way for me to review posts the I wrote in these forums? I looked but did not see an obvious way to do this. Also, is there a way to know when someone responds to a post from me?

Looks like you can click on your name to get to your profile. Then click on the number of posts (the number is a link, weird, huh?) and there's the list of posts. |

Brunner is a comic legend; I still don't have any of his art.
An Olivia watercolor is pretty amazing. One of the all time top cheesecake artists. Next you need to find something by Vargas. |

Not all my stuff is oddball. Iron Man #1 (May 1968).

Marvel had 3 #1s that month. I think they make a neat set.
I wonder if Roy Rogers shirts will come back in style... |

Star Wars #49 (original Marvel series) has a cover title "The Last Jedi". All the BIN copies on ebay got gobbled up yesterday. The active auctions are pretty active. Easily $40+ for a NM raw copy. CGC says $6 - that's last week's price.
Wonder how many raw 9.8s there are. Bet they'll be slabbed soon. |

Hi expander, I thought your suggestions seemed sensible. I guess for some, that's the same as condescending |

One of the few CGC graded comics I own. Bought the comic from a Christian book store off of a spinner rack.

I have a couple of those. Such a trippy read. (Spoiler: Hansi learns Jesus > Nazis) High grade Spire should be easier to find than they are. When comics have odd distribution, piles get filed or misfiled... Where are the missing (hoarded?) Spires?
"The Hiding Place" is a Spire Nazi POW camp comic. It fits the theme. |

Will Eisner art in a govt. publication.

Wow! That sure is a Will Eisner cover. They only had enough budget for one color on the cover? Kinda adds to the cool factor.
I'd think any comic collector who's also used a M16 in a video game would need a copy of that. |

When I make a post, it takes me back to the top of the first page of the thread. That only makes sense if you're trying to discourage multi-page threads. |

Seriously, these are hysterical. 1980s culture + 1980s computer technology from November 1984. My first computer was a TRS-80 in high school. (But I didn't fight crime.) Dick Ayers and Chick Stone.

1980s isn't very old for comic books; but its almost the beginning of time for home computing memorabilia. Dick Ayers & Chic Stone on the cover gives it cred as a proper comic.
They are mostly overlooked because in the late 80s, stacks of 50+ of a single issue would pop up in 4/$1 boxes at local cons.
I like the radio shack comics better than most of the later and more expensive video game movies |

I have always loved this cover. The body poses of both Thor and Surfer are perfect. When I think of classic covers, I think of this one. Silver Surfer #4, February 1969. (Sadly, it has a pretty good-sized spine split.)

The amazing thing is - the insides live up the hype promised by the cover. |

Punch Comics #12 I'd love to own. Great skull cover. I had to look that one up. It's creepy, classic, creative, and beautiful - all at the same time! Exciting Comics #39 is iconic. The background shows a Nazi giving actual poisoned candy to children. (Blonde haired, blue eyed children. Huh???)
For the smaller budget; Criminals on the Run Vol 4 #7 is awesome. |

'94-'97 doesn't have many issues that sell above cover price. Comic shops mostly avoid them because the value of the comics is less than the labor cost to process them. |

and special note for Strange Tales #114 (1963)... occurring between the last GA & 1st SA issues. Cap is on the cover fighting the Human Torch (by Kirby & Ayers). But SPOILERS...
not really Cap... the issue is dirt cheap compared to Avengers #4, |

Who's Your Favorite Cover Artist?

I should've mentioned Frank Frazetta in my post. Joe Jusko's my favorite living artist after Frazetta died. I'll probably take flak for this, but I never liked the mouths and body poses of some of Jack Kirby's work. I was reading an old Machine Man recently, and all the soldiers in this full-page panel had the same face. By contrast, in an old Ditko comic, every face in the background crowd was different.
That Shock Suspenstories # 16 is ART. Not a drawing, but ART! You're right about the lighting, shading, shadows. Did anyone mention Dave Dorman? (I would like some Jusko art. ) Late 70s isn't Kirby's best work. And he gets bonus points for the sheer volume of work. Recent Ditko covers aren't awesome. They should probably count as Underground Comics because he's working so hard at keeping them out of mainstream outlets. |

Robbie could you please show the most legendary issue of Weird Science-Fantasy #29 that you have. (Yes i know, you have 2 copies, Only awesome people have that many ) I'll re-post the poster i have of it as a reference later.
It is one of the best pre-code Frazetta covers.
