I don't have very high-grade Gold or Keys (No 8.5 FF #1). Those are pretty low-to-mid-grade, but some of my stuff's kind of unique. I collect quite a bit of odd-ball stuff - outside of the standard DC and Marvel.
This is one of my favorites in my collection. Again, low-grade. But not something everyone's seen. Spirit #1 (March 1952).

OK, so this one IS a very nice grade. Anyone know what's special about it? San Diego Comic Con Comics #2 (August 1993).

Spirit covers have a lot going on. HEY!!! That's an ape cover
I've got a SDCC#2. For being some well known, Don Martin doesn't have many covers. Found my copy in a quarter box. There's some major comic star contributing to that book - lots of potential. Right now, the big draw is the Hellboy sneak preview.

That's it! It's really his 1st appearance outside of some rough concept prototype sketch in an Italian magazine.

Roy Rogers #71 (Nov 1953). This... is... interesting. It's from the 50s when things were a lot less politically correct, so it has the "injun" (not Native American) say things like "Ugh. Me gettum horse!". Yikes.

Things have changed. Things that were commonplace and ignored are now offensive.

Marvel had 3 #1s that month. I think they make a neat set.
I wonder if Roy Rogers shirts will come back in style...

Back to odd stuff, Tales Calculated to Drive You Bats #1 (Nov 1961). Horror/Humor mix. Not that funny.

Seriously, these are hysterical. 1980s culture + 1980s computer technology from November 1984. My first computer was a TRS-80 in high school. (But I didn't fight crime.) Dick Ayers and Chick Stone.

I like unique. I have some "Spirit' comic reprints in magazine format. Nice to see the original.

I have always loved this cover. The body poses of both Thor and Surfer are perfect. When I think of classic covers, I think of this one. Silver Surfer #4, February 1969. (Sadly, it has a pretty good-sized spine split.)
