I believe they're a carryover and don't work, as there's no way to edit them. I had asked multiple times last year about why the edit page was blank, and was finally told that that feature doesn't work, but they still haven't removed those 2 fields. maybe they can't too, it might be too built-in, and I was told the vendor they bought the forum software from wasn't in business anymore, so they couldn't get them to fix it either.
an admin can come along and tell you for sure. |

pretty sure that would be an EBAY feature, so ask ebay or check their forums. Many sites you can import your ebay listings into them, but importing your off-ebay listings to ebay may not be possible, but ebay should have info about that in their seller FAQs or can answer it for you. |

It's faster if you submit it yourself. Save a GOOD cropped-to-the-edges pic with no watermark to your computer/phone first. (I'd reduce the size of the 1 you linked to by a 1/3 at least, but it'll get shrunk anyway). Then go to the page that issue should be on (and be logged in), click on the Variants tab, click on the red 'Report Missing Variant' button in lower right after the other covers, and fill in the info boxes as best you can, and upload the pic from your computer/phone, and they'll get to it when they get to it. Be patient, it may take weeks/months.
See Ronbatman's post here: https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic15232-variant-submission-annual-and-specials.aspx
and a friendly tip---if you'd looked at any number of other posts about missing variants, you'd have seen this same answer a bunch of times. but sometimes the system gives people an error on the upload, so if you get that and it won't stop, then you report the variant here. edited by collectibleshop on 11/9/2020 |

Hmmnn... True, but unfortunate. I find some forums to be excellent resources for interaction and asking questions. AFAIK, social media still doesn't provide convenient gathering places for special interests. I mean, if these forums were suddenly shut down, I have no idea where to ask questions about comics' prices and interact with other comic collectors......
The CGC forums are quite active, and have lots of knowledgeable (and bigtime) collectors and dealers there, and many discussion forums to choose from. Great resource for grading tips, market prices/happenings (mostly for graded comics, but raw too) and outings of scammers. Has buying/selling forums broken down by comic age, and for auction sellers/dealers general postings, and for comic art, magazines and more. As usual, there's a few curmudgeons, some obnoxious know-it-alls, overly touchy types who take offense at anything etc., but that's every forum, and it's better than it used to be. Moderators are on duty. Newbies tend to get ribbed/hazed a bit sometimes, depends on what they post and how it's perceived, but pretty much the same on any forum. One of the main things to avoid per their rules is not to discuss/promote the other grading companies, although people do it, but most of those get pulled and warnings sent. No political posts allowed either.

Collectible, before you send everyone to another forum, I just saying there are only so many things we can do with this forum. We aren't shutting it down because we see value in it. I'm just stating the obvious that forums are becoming less active. R
I understand about the limitations of the forum here, I'm not trying to cause a panic or send people away. coulda PM'd David, but thought maybe some others that haven't looked for comic forums might like to know about 1 that is still very active, although probably slower than 10 years ago, as most are. I think forums have a place still, for the many (and maybe growing) number of people who don't like or use Unsocial media, me included. X-Men reprints for years, Why?

google is your friend
from the CGC forum: "When Stan Lee and Jack Kirby first introduced the X-Men it was not received as well as Lee's other creations. The public at the time could not relate to it as much as a Spiderman (sic) or Fantastic Four. It was penciled to be cancelled but some Marvel execs and Stan Lee decided to not give up on the series. Instead of being cancelled, reprints of old issues were released in 1970's. Marvel saw that the stories and artwork is solid and that maybe the series was ahead of its time. It was a cheap and easy way of making money and the reprints slowly created a little larger fan base and Marvel decided it was time for a re-launch in 1975. Most people do not know that the reprints are missing a few pages of the original stories - it was necessary to fit in the modern formats of the day. For reading the full stories, you are better off getting the Marvel Masterworks reprints."
from comicbookresources forum: "In 1970 a number of Marvel titles with lagging sales were cancelled. The original X-Men run ended with the publication of issue #66 March 1970. There was an up roar amongst X-Men fans, so much so that in Dec.1970 Marvel resurrected the title with issue #67 as a double sized reprint featuring issues #12 & 13 from the original run."
and Marvel had multiple reprint titles going in the mid-70s, but most if not all had their own title so you pretty much knew they were reprints, like (from the same CGC thread) Marvel Tales (Spidey), Marvels Greatest Comics (FF), Marvel Triple Action (Avengers), Marvel Double Action (Tales of Suspense), Marvel Super-Heroes (Tales to Astonish), Marvel Spectacular (Sgt.Fury, then Thor, or vice versa), Marvel Adventures (Daredevil).

See Ronbatman's post here: https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic15232-variant-submission-annual-and-specials.aspx
and your link to comicbookrealm doesn't work as CPG considers them a competitor, so the URL gets changed by the system to a nothing page.

finally heard back from CGC today, and Rebecca said: "Without a CGC witness present, your signed comic, if graded, would receive the green Qualified label with a notation of “NAME WRITTEN ON COVER IN MARKER” with no assertion of who may have signed the comic. Books that receive the green label do not receive a lower grade because of the unwitnessed signature. CGC ignores the unwitnessed signature for grading purposes."
so Gary, if the only grader note was about the sig, and you call in to ask why it got a 'point' lower than expected, they can't tell you cuz they didn't make other notes about defects. probably not worth the expense for a regrade, but would depend on value of the book of course. edited by collectibleshop on 11/11/2020 |

if you mean for database info, generally they go by what's on the cover, or by the 1st month listed. in this case I see the cover says Oct, but the indicia says Sept/Oct, so maybe the Ronbatman signal needs to go up to make sure. I'd use Oct since that's on the cover that people will see, not that they care all that much. If you look at #1, it has Oct for the publishing date and on the cover.
and when you get an answer, you can fill in dates and cover prices for all the rest of that series that needs it . I just now did the cover prices for the ones below #21, so you can go verify those for me , and I can do more later or do verifying of any you've added. |

yes, it will decrease the value, usually by quite a lot, depending on the amount of resto. It will get a purple label with notes on it about the resto, popularly known as a 'PLOD' or 'Purple Label of Death', if that tells you anything. there's LOTS of info about restored comics value on the net, many examples to go by on that auction site and closed auctions from other big auction houses. the CGC forums have all kinds of threads on this subject too.
https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/27-comic-book-grading-and-restoration-issues/ is a main forum for that stuff, but mostly about grading criteria and restoration technique more than value questions, but if you search like 'value of restored comics' etc. you'll find lots of threads and opinions. try searching for your exact comic too.
It's up to the buyers if they'd rather have an unrestored, but worse looking copy, or a nicer eye appeal one that has resto, so depending on what the comic is (rarity/value) and how low the raw grade is, it might not be worth paying for restoration, unless you're doing it for yourself because you can't afford a better copy, but can afford the resto, which can run some $. if you can find restored ones of yours online, that should tell you something too.
so search and read up, the info, like the truth, is out there.
glorkar posted while I was writing, so like he said, a restored 8 that was a raw 5 will attract people, but it will likely sell at the raw 5 price or less, so you have to decide if spending the resto $ will be worth it if you're going to sell it. edited by collectibleshop on 11/12/2020 |

so on this title, the month on the cover would be the one to submit, right? for Glorkar's info, some bi-monthlies have both months on the cover, like Sept/Oct, so you'd use Sept. |

yeah, Spidey 86 is not worth getting 'restored', but if it's just a dry cleaning that it needs, that might be worth it using CGC's press and clean, but you can check with them on prices and see if it's worth even that. be aware that the pressing process adds MONTHS to the grading time, so hope you're not in a hurry, if you go that way.
Now, you can buy a dry cleaning pad and try rubbing off as much dirt as you can, being very careful to go slow and not rub thru color. art supply stores carry them, and some comic supplies places carry them. There's various kinds these days, some may work better than the 2 I bought eons ago. Have used only 1 to any degree, and it's done ok with cleaning off most dirt and color rub-off from other comics when they were new and shipped or stored all stacked together, but I have messed up a couple books a little off by rubbing original color off trying to get rid of a grease pencil initial. know to quit when you're ahead, and practice on cheap ones you don't care about so much.
I don't think it affected the grades anyway, but I had dry cleaned white back covers of some Giant Size Spidey comics years ago to reduce the 'dirt'/rub-off-from-other-comics stuff near the spine and margins, sent them to CGC, and they didn't note any resto (back then they had not said if dry cleaning was considered resto), and they got blue label 9.4 and 9.6s as expected. They weren't white/clean like new, but definitely better than what they were before. They may still have gotten the same grades anyway, but eye appeal was better.
so up to you how much you want to mess with making it look nicer. have fun.. edited by collectibleshop on 11/12/2020 |
