This is more of a public service announcement than a regular forum post.

ANYWAY, you might want to look through your issues and move your books to either newsstand or direct.

I know you can imagine how huge of a task that is for some of us. Just let us know when you're done and I'll delete everything and start over from scratch.

7 is from the UPC guidelines
59606 is the code for Marvel on current books
08936 is the code for Amazing Spiderman
9 is the check digit
024 is the issue number
1 is the cover number
1 is the print number

Easy enough formula now but there are so many books that need UPC's added. One of our members wrote a nice article on this topic on his blog. https://thejimfurey.com/2018/06/29/anatomy-of-the-modern-comic-book-barcode/

Except on Walmart variants and some books that have more than 10 variant covers. Also there is one publisher out there that doesn't use that formula. ICR which publisher it is. Also there will be some confusion with the hidden secret Marvel variants that will have the same UPC but different covers.

I wouldn't delete everything if I were you. Odds are good that about half are the correct version.

During this process I started going through my Batman issues and found that I didn't like newsstand issues when I started. Almost all of my books are direct version.

With the exception of current books (and I'm not sure what the cutoff date is) I'd literally have to check each book I own to see which version I have. If that's the case it's basically just like starting over.

Any Idea What This Is?

Bumped to see if we can get this figured out. The ones that Ronbatman linked to are not the ones I'm talking about. All the issues are Rebirth #1's of the titles listed in the original post. They look the same in ALMOST every way EXCEPT they have a different UPC and the ads inside and on the back cover are from 2018. The indicia says Batman (Special Edition) #1. The easiest way to identify them are by the bright green back covers that advertise Lego DC Super-Villains video game. They came from Ollie's but they aren't generic overstock from that store in PA, these were an official 10 pack released by DC, factory sealed with DC branding printed to the package. IDK how to add an image from my computer but I can't link to any sites to show what I'm talking about because I can't find ANY information anywhere on these.

I will mention this again. IDK how many times I've submitted it, but Deadpool #14 (2019) has 2 covers that are distinctively different with the same bar code. Marvel did hidden Carnage web variants and if I scan both covers it comes up as the same cover even though it isn't.

Trimmed Comics - I Got Stuck - How Do I Grade ???

drewzer15

I imagine that nobody cares if Fantastic Four #307 is trimmed. It's the expensive key books that we're talking about here. Honestly take all the time you need to examine the book. I'm probably not even going to care about a Spawn #1, but you can be damn sure I'm going over Hulk #181 with a fine tooth comb. But then there are some books that get to the point that they're so valuable it doesn't matter, like Action Comics #1. Oh you trimmed it and it's a 2.0 now? I'll take my tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars and be happy.

IDK where my copy is but all Walmart 100 pg DC books are just "Batman Giant" or "Superman Giant" I'm 99% it's called "Crisis On Infinite Earths Giant". And while we're talking about these giants again there are a lot that are still a mess on the site here.

This is a slippery slope imo. Is it a common error like that Thor/Star Wars book the other week? Then I vote add it. If it's just some random mistake, they could double the amount of comics on this site and trying to list them all would be close to impossible.

Are the new batches of Walmart books new covers or just logo changes? I didn't get a chance to really investigate when I saw them.

I see New Mutants #14 went up in the guide but I also noticed it said that was the first appearance of Illyana. According to Marvel her first appearance as Illyana is GS X-MEN #1. Her first appearance as Magik is in the Magik limited series. Illyana also showed up in UXM #145 & 146 and that is the first time she is named.

The LS came out a full year before NM #14. NM #14 is kinda like an epilogue to the LS, where UXM #160 is kinda like a prologue. I wasn't disputing the value. I'd be happy with all the books being $40 issues.

Some stores don't actually carry them. My Walmart doesn't carry Rice-A-Roni, just the Great Value version. I don't know why.

I pulled a Venom First Host second print out of a pack a few months back. Most of the new ones have second print covers or variants. I pulled a few action figure variants recently and a blank cover and a cosplay variant. Nothing really valuable but you never know what issue is going to be the hot new issue tomorrow.

A lot of times Previews magazines will have a brief 4-5 pages of an upcoming book. I haven’t looked but have any ever been considered valuable as they would show a character several months before the appearance.

I love to flip through them and throw them out.

The Marvel Previews for X-23 is bringing in some money. Also the one for Ultimate FF

Books get preview or ad boosts all the time. There are like 5 books that have an in house ad for Hulk #181 that people are going nuts over. Also Malibu Sun (can't remember the issue #) had an ad for Spawn and people lost their mind.

I always wanted to open "The Android's Dungeon". Some of you will get the reference. But I'll never open a shop so... The only downside I saw to the name was someone may have the rights to it, but maybe that doesn't matter. IDK I'm not a lawyer.
