I recently got some trimmed comics in a collection I purchased. Not obvious until you look closely. I see elsewhere on the web where --- if otherwise in top condition, a trimmed comic can get a grade of 7.5 https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/1044/i-finally-got-burnt---asm-17-trimrestore/ Other places I see 4.5 to 5.5 range. https://www.comicpriceguide.co.uk/features.php?id=14 Does anyone have a guide/tips/tricks as to how to grade? Amateur trim of about 1/16 of an inch one or two edges - hard to see unless you compare to a good copy. I do NOT need... How did I not see it, blah. blah, blah. ??? As a reminder - comics from the 1960s and 70s occasionally had printing offsets that are not trims or defects - just that the graphics are not center n the paper - this does not necessarily indicate a trim. At this point - it is what it is. Thanks KDS Comncs edited by kds_comics on 1/10/2020 edited by kds_comics on 1/10/2020

I imagine that nobody cares if Fantastic Four #307 is trimmed. It's the expensive key books that we're talking about here. Honestly take all the time you need to examine the book. I'm probably not even going to care about a Spawn #1, but you can be damn sure I'm going over Hulk #181 with a fine tooth comb. But then there are some books that get to the point that they're so valuable it doesn't matter, like Action Comics #1. Oh you trimmed it and it's a 2.0 now? I'll take my tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars and be happy.

Hey. I agree with drewzer15 and I add that as soon as you get your 'Silver's and/or 'Golden's-Match them with others that you have to compare what you have as 'Trimmed or No'. This is a quick way of figuring some things out when you get books. Carry an inexpensive Gold or Silver book with you, if need be before you buy. I hope this may help you.

I got a present from family a few years ago which was a fantastic four #48. Looked great, a VF looking book but edges looked too perfect and of course when putting book into a new silver age Mylar it was obvious that it was trimmed, too much space in silver age Mylar. Where ever it was bought, the seller put it in a modern bag and board to make it look right. Anyway didn’t want to tell my family member. I also wonder what grade to give it. If selling I’d say looks like a VF book but trimmed. Nothing else to do.

I do not care to list specific comics - but they are Silver/Bronze age comics with and untrimmed value of $30 to $80 each.Enough of a value to 1) cheat someone by selling as untrimmed and 2) value correctly as trimmed for resale. Thanks. If this was FF#307 or common modern comics I would not have bothered to post. And no one would have bothered to trim. LET"S THINK THIS THROUGH PEOPLE!!!! Thanks.

There were advertised as correct - not trimmed - so as you say - not immediately obvious if you are assuming they are good. Plus Marvel comics at that time often had covers that were off-center in late 1960s into 1970s - this make it even harder to spot. Had to compare to correct online cover scan, then measure against known good comic (or a tape measure) to check.

You misunderstood the point of my post so I'll change my advice: You probably shouldn't buy collections ever!
