I'm not sure if I will be picking up another case soon or if I will wait. My girlfriend will be in town at the end of the month (Kairi likes Gil's movie thread), so I might not have the time, and I may also have other monetary priorities. On the plus side, she gets to be my lovely assistant at one of the shows.

Yay! I can't wait to be there again! Big Grin Yes, I do like that thread :P I look forward to getting to be an assistant at one of the shows! smile I'm sure it will be a lot of fun, and I am excited to go to one after not being able to for so long.

Good luck & have fun at the show guys.
I just updated my movie thread, Enjoy!

Nice books Doug!

Batmobile = Awesome

Supermobile = Awesome (I don't think I posted that scan on the new forum)

Spider-Mobile? Must also be awesome. I mean, it just stands to reason, right? It can't just be a ploy to sell toys. Marvel would never attach their brand to shoddy merchandise. He's one of the finest minds in the Marvel Universe, so if he is creating a Spider-Mobile, when he doesn't even really need a vehicle, it must be awesome!

So, a few more things from the new collection to post. Here goes:

Strangely, most of the Daredevils in the collection were one's that I didn't have and were in pretty decent condition.

This one.... not so much. I'm not really sure if I should still have it on my look for list. I tend to keep looking for Silver Age books in my runs if they aren't at least Good and Bronze/Modern if they aren't at least Very Good. But this is also a kind of pricey book.

Even some early annuals and Giant Size issues were in this collection.

And a lot of decent Fantastic Fours, too. Including the Avengers crossover featuring Ultron-7 and a bunch of George Perez stuff, too.

There was also a complete collection of Godzilla in there. And a lot of Howard the Ducks, too.

And there are some nice Hulks in the collection, too. And I haven't even gotten to the two or three really expensive books in the collection yet.

DD#131 is the 1st Bullseye. It's a perfect 1st app cover and a pretty good read. I think you want to find a slabbed copy. Then you can have a nice one and one for reading smile

otoh; if you don't dig the story, then that one is fine...

Yep, that collection was a sweet score.

Honestly, I have never had any interest in getting a slabbed comic. While I can't claim to have read everything in my collection, part of the thing about owning a comic is reading it. And I don't really want to have to pay $18 extra just to read an issue. I had a collection that I was looking to buy that had a graded copy of New Teen Titans #3 in it. I ended up paying less for the collection and letting him keep the graded issue. I'm more likely to pick up a trade in order to have a reader copy of something I am worried to open. I might consider getting a slabbed issue if it was something really expensive, just to get a little assurance of the quality, but that's about it.

Anyway, a few more pick ups while I'm here.

Any time you find a 12 cent issue in decent condition, it's a good day.

I was a little surprised at how little this was listing for. I mean, I know it's not the first appearance, but still sort of major.

Now this one is worth a bit. Not something I would have sought out, but when you find it in a collection for a dollar, it's a great find. And it will probably go up in value over the next little bit.

My scanner has trouble with white covers. But, the reason I'm showing this off is because it was the last issue of New Teen Titans that I needed to complete my run. I'm still missing a few issues of Tales of the Teen Titans, but those will come soon enough. A little lower grade than I would have liked, but not terrible, particularly for the price I paid.

I also got a Nova #1 in the collection, but it's a little rough. Missing a small but noticeable amount of its cover. And there's still another major key coming as I go through the collection and get it all organized.

These are the last few of the recent pick ups from the cons and the collection. I have more that I picked up while the forums were down, but I'll just finish off the recent things for now.

There were only two issues of Strange Tales in the collection. It makes sense since the guy seemed to like Doctor Strange. But a nice, frequently overlooked issue in decent shape.

Jim Starlin issues featuring Warlock or Thanos. Always nice to find for cheap.

So, while I was at the con, a guy walked up to my table and saw what I was selling. He figured I might be interested in the stuff he was trying to sell. Why you would go to a con to sell a few issues, I don't know. Anyway, most of the stuff, I already had, but I did buy what he was offering (at a very low price. He was very insistent that I should buy his stuff. I gave him near guide for the stuff I didn't have, and still feel like I over paid for everything.) Anyway, now I'm two issues closer to a full run of Uncanny X-Men. This was the only expensive issue I was missing between #125 and #350.

So, I have a few last scans from the collection that I realize I never got around to posting. I also realize that I didn't scan nearly as many of my X-Men comics as I did my Avengers. Oh, well.

This came from the pedigree collection. It was basically almost every Marvel comic that was released between 1980 and 1983. When you consider what that entails, it's pretty amazing stuff. Frank Miller on Daredevil, Claremont and Byrne on X-Men, Michelinie and Layton on Iron Man... Pretty good stuff.

It also included the first 30 or so issues of this:

And this:

Until I found this in a collection, I honestly had no clue this existed. It's not something I had ever heard of or come across and it wasn't something I would have sought out. But, it's cool to have.

This was in the second collection I ever bought. The collection had an almost complete run of West Coast Avengers up to #60 or something and a complete run of X-Factor up to #60 something and another 100 or so comics. The guy had gotten several offers that were basically "You're looking or $300 for the whole collection? How about I give you $75 for these 3 issues (#5, #6 and #24)?" If a guy wants to sell in bulk, he wants to sell in bulk. So, I was able to snag the entire collection for 86 cents an issue, most of which I was actually interested in. I somehow suspect that we are near the top of the market for this one, though.

That's all for now, though. Everything I own is bagged, boarded and in a proper box (and my living room no longer looks like I'm a hoarder!). I've been looking for another good collection, but craigslist is not obliging. A few lackluster collections have come up, but nothing that I really must buy. Well.... there's one that I want to investigate when I get some more time. Has a few Avengers I need from the Perez era, a few Daredevil's I'm missing.... But it's the type of collection where he says he's got "Spider-Man #47." Amazing Spider-Man? Spectacular? Info insufficient... And I've learned not to assume the best when a guy says that. I was hoping for Amazing when that happened last. Would have been happy with Spectacular. Nope.... Web of Spider-Man. Such is the perils of buying collections.

Ironman & Subby is a pretty important issue. The story bridges ToS to Ironman #1 and TTA to Subby #1.

Great Gene Colan cover.
Rom is a fun read. Sort of a Silver Surfer angst thing going on. With a cool ray gun smile

So, I haven't posted anything in a while, mostly because I haven't actually bought anything in a while. I did buy a few things at one con I worked, but that was a while back and that was the last of it. Not because I'm not interested. I am. But because I had a larger expense that was taking priority. At the moment, I am in New Jersey visiting Kairi. I know she doesn't post a lot, but she is a spam killing machine. Anyway, she just graduated from university and while she and I were together with her parents and family, it seemed like a great time to ask her to marry me.

She said yes.

So... that's the reason for no updates. I've been spending money on an engagement ring and plane tickets rather than comic collections.

Congratulations to both of you!

While I love comics, that's a much better set of things to be saving the money for. We are looking at 2 sets of college tuition here in the relatively near future.

So, it's been a while since I posted anything. Mostly since it's been a while since I bought anything. But a few weeks ago I had a con where I was selling my duplicates and had a rather good day, selling a fair number of my high value issues (Claremont/Byrne X-Men, for example) and decided to open the wallet. I can't seem to get my scanner to work since, so I can't show off the find, but I picked up Amazing Spider-Man #238 for $80.

The dealer had it listed at $100 and noted that the tattoos were missing (which is fine because if the tattoos were there I would have been very cautious about the repair possibility), still looks like about an 8.0. Might go down to a 7.0, might even go a touch higher, but I'm comfortable at 8.0. Wasn't until I looked up what I actually had in the Overstreet that I realized what was going on. I had bought the Canadian Newsstand variant which did not come with tattoos (at east according to the Overstreet). So, not a bad addition to the collection. One more high value comic crossed off the list.

Congrats CapnDoug, sounds like a nice book. I never bought that issue and once it went up in price. I stayed away.

Someone once told me that that tattoos are not exclusive to that issue of Spider-Man and that you could purchase another comic that never went up in price and take the tattoo out of that one and put it into an issue of number 238 that might be missing a tattoo. It's as simple as that... At least that is what the guy told me.

The Canadian version does have the tattoos -- I just lost out on an auction of that book and the owner showed me that the tattoos were intact in the book.

And to Colbalt91 -- the tattoos are also in FF 252 (the sideways issue) and I believe all US newsstand versions of comics released that month (I had them in my Uncanny X-men 167, an issue Rom and the Defenders). However, as the tattoo insert is stapled into the book, it would be pretty darn difficult to remove one from a lower value book and add it into the ASM.
