The story begins last year in Charleston, South Carolina, where a couple is arguing outside a bed and breakfast because the husband, Matthew, brought his computer on their weekend getaway. In the middle of the conversation, the woman is vaporized, a Skrull appears, SHIELD kills the Skrull and a announces that Skrulls are attacking and everyone should seek cover and not trust anyone. The man is left traumatized and alone. Today, in New York, She-Hulk is in her office dealing with her day to day affairs when she opens a package and is shocked by its contents. The scene changes to Madripoor, where Magneto, the Emma Frost, and Dazzler are looking for Mystique. Dazzler is on the verge of a breakdown. At the Xavier School's secret campus, Cyclops has a vision of him killing Xavier. When he snaps out if it, his student, Eva, asks if he is all right. He questions her about what happened to her and tries to get her to ask him for help, despite already knowing what happened. Eva gets angry and leaves. At the Jean Grey School, She-Hulk arrives and asks Storm to get together a list of people to hear Charles Xavier's will. Everyone is stunned to hear this. Meanwhile, Magneto's group returns to the Xavier School. Emma tells Scott to invite Hijack back onto the team. Hijack and Scott have a frank conversation about Hijack's powers and Hijack is anxious to return as an X-Man. Dazzler, meanwhile, continues to struggle with maintaining her sanity. Now, in Newberry, South Carolina, Matthew, the civilian who survived the Skrull attack, bumps into his wife's sister. She wants to talk to him, but he demands that he be left alone. There appears to be some sort of explosion and Matthew is once again left alone looking terrified. Back at the Jean Grey School, She-Hulk asks if Xavier is truly dead, and then after Storm confirms that he is gone, Ms. Walters asks that the last person on the list be contacted so the will may be heard. The person is Scott Summers.
