 Interlude

 Doctor Doom
This issue, more than any other I have seen, defined and continues to define who Doctor Doom is. From the great cover idea to the last page, this issue is the one to turn to if you've ever wondered who Doom is and why he does what he does. We follow the good Doctor during a normal day of running a tiny monarchy. He gets up early, has his robots dress him, then handles all his chores, from ruling on petty squabbles from the locals to checking up on his scientific work. It is here that he find his lacky, Herr Hauptmann, has completed a task Doom set for him, namely replicating the power cosmic. Hauptmann offers Doom the chance to test the device, to which Doom instead throws Hauptmann in it. The power cosmic is too much for him to handle and Hauptmann turns to ashes. Doom's next task is to find someone strong enough to harness the power. He searches through his Computer when his young Apprentice offers up magneto's name, saying "some people say his power rivals your own." Doom does not take this comment very well and does his best Darth Vader by grabbing the young Kristoff by the collar, lifting him into the air and screaming "no one rivals Doom!!!" Tough father figure. Anyways, he continues to search and finds a very suitable candidate...a beaten and broken Terrax who just happens to be in a New York hospital (good job Shield!) Doom steals him, heals him, and offers him the power cosmic in exchange for the defeat of the Fantastic Four. Terrax is game and zooms off to New York to claim his Victory. But the wiley Von Doom fails to mention that the power will destroy Terrax in a matter of hours...whoops, sorry, forgot to mention that part!
