Wyatt Wingfoot greets the FF as they return to the Baxter Building from their encounter with the Shaper of Worlds. Johnny's old roommate is due to graduate college, but Wyatt's visit isn't pleasurable. He asks his super-powered friends to return to his homeland after the ceremonies because he fears something is troubling his people. Graduation celebrations are cut short by an emergency call from Wyatt's tribe. Reed stays behind, still waiting hopefully for Sue to return with Franklin. Johnny, Ben, Medusa, and Wyatt take less than an hour to reach the Keewazi reservation in the Pogo plane. Wyatt's grandfather explains that it is as if the very gods have turned against them. The mountain comes to life and terrorizes them, destroying the homes of neighboring tribes as well. But before the gods can get all the credit, the culprit steps from the shadows and reveals himself as the Miracle Man. While Johnny and Ben completely dismiss the threat, Medusa is trapped by the Miracle Man's manipulations. Johnny and Ben tell her how the Miracle Man was quickly defeated and exposed as powerless. But then the Miracle Man picks up the story. While in prison, he trained his mind. Eventually, he was released and found his way into an ancient cave with mystical Indian guides. There he learned to master mind-over-matter truly. His powers are no longer an illusion. His creations can indeed kill! Tired of the mockery he receives from Ben and Johnny, the Miracle Man opens up the earth itself and consumes Johnny, Ben, Medusa, and the Keewazi tribe!
