Following his reentry, Peter buries his tattered costume in the dirt and runs on foot as law enforcement arrives on the scene, disoriented and struggling to stay up, his sole focus on recovering Mary Jane. Finding himself in Pennsylvania, Peter manages to ride on a bus to New York City, having stolen clothes to be presentable, and freaks out seeing a newspaper detail his fight with Rabin as only earlier that day, despite his spending a week in the devastated other world, concluding time moves faster on the other world. Peter races to Aunt May's house, frantically asking how long it's been since she saw him, finding it's only been a day for her, and is unsettled by Norman Osborn being there to check up on him. An agitated Peter demands Norman leave, but Norman insisted on coming over because he predicted Peter's situation would be once more in detrimental condition. After Peter throws Norman against a wall demanding he leaves his family alone, May demands Peter stop as his behavior is intensely erratic, all while Norman notices the device in Peter's pocket.

Peter hastily exits May's home and returns to his apartment, where Randy notes his condition but Peter brushes it off, quietly fixated on saving Mary Jane. At the Baxter Building, Peter attempts to infiltrate the headquarters of the Fantastic Four but is caught by the security system. Inside, Johnny and Ben tell the captive Peter he needed to slow down and ask for an explanation. Peter hastily explains his conflict with Rabin and his need for a lab. They free him trying to help but stop him from reaching Reed's lab as they need to run tests to verify his identity. They were ordered by Cap to hold him, especially since he left a massive crater outside a city in Pennsylvania after two extra-dimensional explosions and there was a destroyed Spider-Man costume, so Johnny and Ben are supposed to make him wait.

Peter then flees and changes into his civilian attire aiming to talk with Dr. Strange next, confused if he was still dead, only to be met by Cap in the back alley trying to talk with Peter. Cap tells Peter that the FBI is looking for Spider-Man and is likely to declare him an enemy of the state as two WMD-level explosions occurred and they found his tattered Spider-Man costume. However, Cap stays on the defensive as Peter fights back, recognizing the look in Peter's eyes as him having gone through something. Peter roars that he doesn't have time and takes Cap's shield to attack him and delay his pursuit. While Peter recognizes that Cap was trying to help, he stays dead set on his mission and focuses on where to go next, as Cap knows his secret identity limits his hiding spots. Peter goes to the one man nobody would think he'd go to and takes Norman's offer for assistance, asking his ex-nemesis for help.
