In an attempt to turn Kara back into the evil Supergirl who had resided with Darkseid, Lex Luthor has a special suit built for himself that housed various types of kryptonite. One was black kryptonite. He had been told by Darkseid that he could use it to turn Kara to her former self, but when he used it on her, an Evil Supergirl emerged. A separate entity that fully functioned on her own, Evil Supergirl spoke Kryptonian.
