 The Floating Furries!
* 1st "Floating Furries"

Weary of Platinum's continued amorous harassment, Doctor Will Magnus replaces her faulty responsometer with a newer model. The new responsometer, however, merely redirects Platinum's affections to Gold. Magnus becomes so consumed in reconfiguring the workings of the responsometer that he allows his social life to fall apart. Finally, the Metal Men drag Magnus out of the laboratory for some desperately needed recreation. Tin, Mercury, Platinum, Iron and Gold mold themselves into a sailing vessel, which Lead launches into the sea. Magnus is just starting to relax when Gold spies a floating mine, bobbing directly ahead of them. To the Metal Men's surprise, the mine speaks, declaring it's lust for Gold, just before dragging the "ship" beneath the waves. The Metal Men disengage from one another, leaving only Gold in the mine's clutches.

Tin molds himself into a diving bell around Magnus, which Mercury then propels to the surface. Platinum weaves herself into a net around the mine, giving Gold time to dissolve from it's grasp. Iron forms himself into a basin to collect Gold, then torpedoes himself to the surface. A second floating mine creature arrives to assist the first. Upon spying Platinum, the second creature falls deeply in love with her. As the two floating mine creatures battle, Platinum escapes to the surface. Having subdued it's subordinate, the first of the floating mine creatures seeks an audience with Poseidon. Claiming the ancient rites of salvage, the floating mine asks permission to retrieve Gold, while also taking action against his protectors, and revenge on Platinum. Poseidon consents, bestowing command of the sea, and all that dwell within the sea, to the floating mine.

It's first command is issued to a school of sharks, which are bade to form themselves into an enormous harpoon. The Floating Fury, as it is called, throws the sharks harpoon at the Metal Men. Tin tries to block the attack, but proves too feeble. Iron, however, repels the sharks harpoon. The Floating Fury summons up a great wave to come crashing down on the Metal Men. Gold forms himself into four large discs. With Magnus, Tin, Platinum, and Mercury each holding on to one of the discs, Iron skips them across the sea, to shore. Iron sacrifices himself for the Metal Men, as only he is caught by the crushing force of the wave, and driven to the bottom of the sea. The Metal Men rendezvous with Lead, on the shore, where they are all attacked by a giant crab. Lead molds himself into a spear, and is then fired at the crab, by Platinum.

Lead's attack buys the Metal Men time to flee. Once onboard their jetaway, and safely in the sky, Magnus and the Metal Men discuss their best tactic for retrieving Iron. The new responsometer draws lightning to Platinum. Suddenly, the Metal Men are caught in a torrential downpour. The drops of rain drag the Metal Men, and Magnus, out of the jetaway, and carry them back out to sea. There, they are placed atop an enormous waterspout, which drags them down into a whirlpool. The Metal Men form a chain, with Lead anchoring them upon a rock. The Floating Fury appears, taking ahold of Gold. Platinum lets go of Mercury, as she draws another bolt of lightning to herself. Platinum conducts the lightning's electrical power through herself into Gold, and through Gold into the Floating Furies. All are destroyed. The remaining Metal Men gather up what's left of Gold and Platinum, then collect Iron's inert body. Magnus reconstructs the three robots, deciding to re-install Platinum's original responsometer, returning her personality to "normal"
