Tragedy strikes at California's Polytech Institute, as Tony Stark's college mentor is caught in the middle of an industrial accident. Much to the golden avenger's chagrin, Dr. Ted Slaght has been transformed into the villainous Slag. Iron Man wants desperately to save his Alzheimer's-stricken friend. Sadly, this doesn't seem possible.
Once the climactic battle is over, Tony retreats to his new clandestine Arctic bunker. What is he doing up there?
