Noh-Varr is trying to figure out what exactly he is meant to do on Earth. He left Norman Osborn's Avengers after discovering they were all either criminals, insane, or both. He does his best to build a working communicator to call the Kree Empire, all the while, avoiding the Fantastic Four, S.W.O.R.D. and the Dark Avengers. Right now, in disguise, Noh-Varr can't figure out what humankind want as a species. As he wanders around Manhattan he observes a woman named Annie getting in a fight with her now ex-boyfriend. He approaches her hoping to learn more about what drives human behavior.
While talking with the woman, The Sentry appears saying he is to bring Noh-Varr back to Osborn. He does not go quietly and the two begin fighting. Things quickly escalate out of control while the two debate their roles in the world while clashing. Eventually Noh-Varr escapes, with Annie's help, who uses his weapons incapacitate the Sentry. He first retrieves his arsenal before leaving.
When he makes his way to his safe house, he manages to make his communicator work. A hologram of the Kree Supreme Intelligence appears before him, telling him that his actions against the Skrull were valiant and inspiring to his brothers on Hala. But because of the Skrulls' machinations, Earth is in more danger than ever before. The Supreme Intelligence states that the decision has been made for Noh-Varr to become Earth's new protector, to learn and understand humanity and to protect the interests of their leaders. They give him a new set of Nega-Bands to aid him as well as a new costume, to take the place of Mar-Vell before him. Supreme Intelligence's last words are that he's no longer along.
Back at the scene of the fight, the Dark Avengers are searching for Noh-Varr. However, the Sentry cannot detect his aura, nor can Daken sniff him out. Annie, right behind the police line, sneaks away into an alley, where she runs into Noh-Varr again. He speaks briefly with her, telling her that he is waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Annie asks if she can join him for companionship when he's done. Noh-Varr says he'll think on that and transforms into his new costume, before dissipating into light. Annie catches one of his light sphere.
Unbeknownst to Noh-Varr, all of this was being observed by both Captain America and a revived Steve Rogers, who are considering him a possible ally against Osborn.
