A Christmas Carol: Part One Captain Marvel has been off in space doing intergalactic heroic things when Carol Danvers gets a letter from home (Well. actually four letters). Lieutenant Trouble (Kit) tells that Grace Valentine has broken out of jail and is controlling every rat in the city - and sending them towards Carol's friends holed up in the Statue of Liberty. Then Spider-Woman (who, BTW, hates rats) assisted by Wendy Kawasaki and the internet, deactivates the lead rat and the rest flee like ... well, you know. (A side comment about heroism. Carol, Jessica and Rhodey have the super-powers, but Kit, Marina, and Wendy stayed calm and active during the crisis) But where is Grace Valentine? Carol's old apartment, of course. Wendy sends James Rhodes (War Machine/Iron Patriot/Carol's lover) there where he finds Grace in a Captain Marvel suit! He then finds the bomb that Grace had planned to use to destroy "everything Carol ever cared about"! Rhodey's only option is out and up - straight up to the point that anoxia set in and Rhodey began to hallucinate. His memory is of Carol removing the bomb and letting it fall to Earth, even though she wasn't within light years of the planet. Wendy's letter explains that she wasn't with the others because she was at the Hospital where Carol's role model, Tracey Burke, lies dying. She also sees Grace Valentine being escorted to the Psych Ward "for observation".
Carol realizes how much she misses her friends and that she may never see Tracey again. But her assignment and her duty is in space. Fortunately, Lia Cheney has the power to teleport to any place she's ever been. And as fast as you can say "Marley's Ghost", Carol is in New York in time for Christmas!
