 If He LOSETH His SOUL!
*This issue introduces Peggy Carter who will be a recurring character in this title through Captain America #191
Captain America blames himself for the Falcon’s leaving, his newly-found super-strength seeming to demote his proud partner to the status of sidekick. He stops by Sharon’s apartment to find the note that she is leaving and never coming back Seeking answers he goes to SHIELD headquarters where he is challenged by a pair of overzealous agents, whom he fights to gain access to Nick Fury. The Colonel doesn’t know where Sharon is either so Cap takes off on his cycle to search for his beloved. In Harlem, Cap spies the Falcon and Leila being threatened by a jealous Rafe Michel backed by his gang. As Cap watches, Falcon disposes of the entire pack of thugs. He reveals his presence, congratulating his partner on his victory and asking him for his help in the search. Falcon resists until he is convinced by a speech from Cap on the need for everyone to be united in the goal of ending injustice. Though Leila is still hostile to Cap, Falcon agrees to join him. Meanwhile, Sharon Carter awakens in a private hospital in New England, where a Dr. Wolfgang tells her she was in a minor car accident. The presence of her parents reveals to her that she is in the same institution as a mysterious veiled woman (whose identity will be revealed to the reader soon). The Carters are unaware through, that they are pawns in a scheme by Dr. Faustus to destroy Captain America. Following a clue from a car rental agency, Cap and the Falcon trace Sharon to the Connecticut asylum where they are attacked by uniformed thugs and overpowered. Meanwhile, Sharon does some snooping on her own and finds the veiled woman locked in a cell, then she spies on Dr Faustus. Unfortunately, Faustus is aware of Sharon’s presence by means of hidden surveillance cameras and he captures and drugs her. As dawn approaches, Cap, Falcon and Sharon awaken to find themselves in a war-torn European street, dressed in 1940s clothing and under attack by a squadron of Nazis…all part of Faustus’ psychological trap.
