Altered States Vampirella [NOTE: While the heroine of this story may strongly resemble a certain Drakulonian vampire we all know, she is fully human and born on Earth.]
Lt. Ella Normandy is part of a 4-person crew sent to explore Venus. As they approach the planet they discover an artifact in orbit. It powers up as they get closer and suddenly pulls them in and transports them to a world with a double sun.
The trip has damaged the ships engines and the ship crashes on the planet, killing two of the crew.. The planet has a breathable atmosphere, but the desert landscape seems uninhabited and uninhabitable. A large city is spotted on the horizon, so Ella and the Captain head off in that direction, hoping to find someone or something to help with the repairs. They are attacked (and the Captain killed) by a winged man/bat creature. Hearing what sounds like cry for help, Ella tops a rise and see two men being attacked by two more of the creatures. She kills the creatures and approaches the men. Naturally, they don't speak English. She accepts an arm bracelet that she thinks is a reward. but when she puts it on. she can suddenly understand what the men are saying!
The men invite Ella to their home and give her a quick history lesson on the planet called Drakulon.. The people and the creatures (called Drakkar) share a common ancestor, but the human-like race evolved well beyond. They had reached the point where they explored the stars, but a great drought decimated the population. The city she's in controls the River of Life, and the creatures attack every night trying to get at it. They offer Ella the use of their shower, and she is horrified when she is suddenly covered in blood. She confronst her hosts and they pour her a glass of water (Bright red "water")
Ella slaps the glass from her host's hand, breaking the glass and cutting his hand in the process. She also becomes ravenously thirsty when she sees his clear "blood" and drinks from the wound. She is quickly overpowered and brought before a local magistrate, who decides that she is too dangerous to continue living and sentences her to death.
She flees back to the ship and, after determining that the townspeople are not pursuing her, buries the two shipmates who died in the accident. During this she spots some Drakkar flying during the day. On closer inspection, they are wearing goggles, which protect their eyes from the harsh Drakulon sunlight.
Despite the death sentence, Ella rushes back to town and with the aid of Earth weapons, repels the Drakkar attack. The townsfolk converge on her, and she begs to to leave in peace. The same magistrate proclaims her Vampire Ella, the greatetst champion Drakulon has ever known!
