Trade vs Virgin Variant Covers

After recently returning to collecting, and being a bit stunned specifically by how things have changed with variant covers compared to my youth (I only had Newsstand and Direct editions to deal with), I'm curious what people's thoughts are on Trade vs Virgin variants. I understand the valuation differences based on rarity and all that, but beyond the business side of it ... what do people think of one vs the other? |

Updating Creators & Verifying Data
glarimer
|
I've been getting into contributing more by updating Creators on the issues I have and helping to verify data, but it would be helpful if there was a bit more guidance around the level of detail and the guidelines. For example:
Creators Alternative Names: When someone is credited as a "Penciler", for example, does that go in as an "Artist"? How do other alternate titles match up to your fields? Scope: Especially with positions like "Editor", would we go with just the one credited editor, or all alternative listed editors (e.g. associate editor, assistant editor, etc...)
Verifying Data Is the expectation that data is verified based on "hands on book" visual verification, or can we use common sense reasoning verifying this information. A couple of examples: - If the cover price is being verified, and the uploaded cover clearly shows the cover price, then the cover price could be verified by that, right? ... assuming the uploaded cover is accurate to begin with - If variant A has confirmed creators and we're looking at confirming creators for variant B of the same issue, then it seems like we could use the confirmation from A to confirm B creators for all creators save for the Cover Artist
Things like that. If there were just a bit more guidance, maybe a blog post or a video or something going into some of this stuff, I'd probably be more effective at contributing to the data.

That makes sense, and what Glorkar is doing matches some of what I've started doing on the verification side, I've just been a little uncertain whether that meets the desired quality control standard. Thanks for the additional clarification on everything. edited by glarimer on 1/28/2022 |

To the earlier point, I hadn't been as attentive to cropping and sizing as I should, which I corrected and resubmitted. I hadn't come across a virgin of Cover A before, so yea, there's another one Regarding the white vs. gold lettering on Cover B, I was assuming the white lettering image on the pub site was maybe a pre-production image, as I haven't seen a white letter issue for sale. That said, issue number 1 has an original and variant cover, both of which have an alternate variant with gold lettering, so maybe there are both original white and gold foil versions of 2B as well. Not sure what's going on with the B&W Virgin, can't find any reference anywhere to that other than the link you posted. Not sure what's going on there. |

I don't know how you want to organize this, but I initiated a request for a new variant (Virgin Foil of cover 2A), with the associated cover. Then I guess the 2B description would need to be updated for the bloody, gold label cover as applicable. This would keep things consistent with 1B and 3B, as each of those display the publisher defined variant as well. Note that the bloody, gold label cover, Cover B, is only credited to "Helmut Racho" though. - Alternatively, let me know if you want to do it the other way around edited by glarimer on 1/30/2022 |

Confirmed through Antarctic Press, Bradley Golden and Helmut Racho. The ghost variant is legit, it's a Comic Elite Exclusive that Bradley Golden produced himself, external to Antarctic Press. 200 print run. I've initiated a variant request with that info. During my research, I discovered some other misattributions related to this title which I've itemized out in a new thread. Looks like the Antarctic Press website isn't up to date |

While investigating this series, I've confirmed through Bradley Golden and Helmut Racho that the Antarctic website has misattributed the CA creators on their books, leading to inaccurate attributions here. The following lists off what I've found either through direct confirmation from Bradley Golden, or hands on book verification
LotL 1B - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/leave-on-the-light/1B/pkwwjtu Cover: Technically, the displayed cover is the back cover of the book. It's a flip cover. The front cover is the attached gold foil cover. 1A has a similar, non gold foil back cover, illustrated here for reference: https://res.cloudinary.com/db8ut0jaw/image/upload/v1565477671/large-7364157.jpg Description: Currently listed as "Helmut Racho & Oscar Pinto Foil Variant Cover". Oscar Pinto had nothing to do with either cover. Helmut Racho did the front cover and David Hutchison did the back cover of both 1A and 1B. A more apt description may be "Gold Foil Variant Cover"
LotL 2 - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/leave-on-the-light/2/pkvthsy Creators: Oscar Pinto is not the cover artist, only Helmut Racho
LotL 2B - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/leave-on-the-light/2B/pkvthsx Creators: Oscar Pinto is not the cover artist, only Helmut Racho Description: Currently listed as "Helmut Racho & Oscar Pinto Foil Variant Cover". Oscar Pinto wasn't the cover artist, and Helmut Racho did both. A more apt description may just be "Gold Foil Variant Cover"
LotL 2C - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/leave-on-the-light/2C/phtxnxt
Creators: Oscar Pinto is not the cover artist, only Helmut Racho
LotL 3B - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/leave-on-the-light/3B/phqynyw
Description: Currently listed as "Helmut Racho & Oscar Pinto Foil Variant Cover". Oscar Pinto wasn't the cover artist. David Hutchinson did #3A and Helmut Racho did #3B. A more apt description may just be "Helmut Racho Foil Variant Cover" |

Small Limbo Box Recommendation
glarimer
|
It would be really helpful if the Limbo Box would display the Grade the seller assigned to a book.
When I receive an issue from another member and I go into the Limbo Box to mark it as received, I have no way to check what his grade was against the copy I'm holding in my hand. I don't know if their grade transfers when the issue transfers, or if it defaults to the 9.4, but either way, it would be far more straight forward to have that grade handy right at the point of marking it received. Then if there are any questions or anything, I can annotate that right in the received message. |

Thanks ... it was a lot to research. And I hate to do this to you, but I'm afraid you changed the wrong cover. It looks like you replaced the correct cover on 1A rather than the back cover showing on 1B. Sorry if my message wasn't clear on that. I've attached the front and back covers of both 1A and 1B for reference. The image with the hand covering the child's mouth is the back cover of both 1A and 1B. So it seems only the inmate image should be used for both covers, colored for 1A, gold foil for 1B |
