Steve Ditko's death made the NBC national nightly news. For a guy that tried not to have a presence, that's a lot of presence.

Venom #3 (2018) trending up?

This site has Venom # 3 going for $14 under the Recent Price value section. In Venom # 2 Krull makes a cameo. Now the second printing of Venom # 2 is sold out at both Diamond and Midtown and a third printing is on its way. So I guess Venom # 2 is hot, also.

That Girl - Season 5... dilemma upon dilemma

I was watching season 5 of the 1970 season of television series That Girl on DVD. It was interesting to see that even back then there was the dilemma of having a Caucasian person playing a Mexican with an funny accent. Of course, this was shortly after the Frito Bandito character had been put to rest because of complaints by some Mexican American groups. And it was so rare that a show like That Girl which was mainly comedy would break from the weekly routine and get serious. The character of Ann Marie, played by Marlo Thomas who also played an actress on the show, had this dilemma in a play she had a skit in. In the end, Ann Marie decides do not do it the day before the play was to open. So, the play opened without the skit as it was too late to replace her. Then the producers of the show received accolades from the Press for eliminating this questionable skit. At the end of the show Alejandro Rey who was part of a group of Mexican Americans lobbying to Ann Marie to not do it, comes by her apartment and tells her that the producers are going to pay the Mexican Americans and her anyway because they want to go along with the Press and make it seem like it was their decision. Ann Marie asked the question whether they should do it and Alejandro Rey says why not let's take the money and she agrees. By the way, Alejandro Rey who was the main Mexican character in the show was actually from Argentina and not Mexican in any way.

Well, social justice on the show That Girl did not last that long. In the following episode it shows Ann Marie and her boyfriend at the airport waiting for an uncle. There are about three Japanese looking Asian guys in suits with cameras waiting for someone, also, apparently. Soon about three other Asian guys come through the gates and both groups start taking pictures of each other wildly. Ann and her boyfriend go through the gates trying to find her uncle and after about 5 minutes return with the uncle and then all the Asian guys start taking pictures of Ann Marie, her boyfriend and her uncle for no apparent reason. Soon they are all posing for all the Asian photographers. But these are just Asian stereotypes who always are depicted taking pictures as tourists. Like I said social justice did not last too long.

Edge of the Spider-verse # 2.. The first Spider-Gwen has moved up in price again according to our site. I think that is funny as there used to be this one guy on our site who would always argue with me about Spider-Gwen being worth anything. And my quip back to him was always 'you can't stop Spider-Gwen.'

Something called Riptide. I don't know a thing about it. But if a shop owned it they do not have it right now. Supposedly came out this week.

Autographs/Signatures on Comics!

colbalt91
colbalt91
The other day I was in a comic shop and I overheard a manager talking to a perspective seller of a comic book collection that they don't pay extra for autographs as they cannot authenticate them. However, if you go through the comic store's bins you will find some autographed comics selling for above cover price because they are autographed. And from doing years of shopping at the store I know that the autograph's creators or signers have never done a signing at that store. Now how does that work? Just a rhetorical question there.

Now here's a different dilemma for autograph hounds... Matthew Sturgis, who has done a lot of work on Fables and House of Mystery, is now presenting himself as a woman. I don't know whether he is just a crossdresser now, a transvestite or a transgender. So how will he sign his name now. Will he still sign Matthew for all his previous work or will he sign his new girl's name. And in future work will his girl name be what he signs or will it still be Matthew to ease the continuity. Maybe he'll just sign it Fruit Loops.

Marie Severin dead at age 89

Marie Severin who was a main stay at Marvel Comics, mainly behind the scenes, died two days ago at age 89. She was known or doing office work and whatever Marvel Comics required though she did do some artwork on Doctor Strange and the Hulk, and a few other comics from Marvel. Her brother John Severin was also an artist that worked for Marvel among other companies.

There is a lack of logic in this movie. Nothing really makes sense. A lot of action. People that like the Fast and the Furious franchise will like this movie. And at the end of the movie they set themselves up for a sequel that looks like they might be starting to get into the superhero business... with a sort of War Machine type ending. Marvel Comics may not like this. Neither will Disney.

Perhaps Ladybug and Cat Noir as the movie seems to be set for 2019. The trailer for the movie is already out on the internet. I remember picking up those issues as the covers looked so cool. Now that I look at it closer this might be a fake commercial or trailer. The ladybug show must be on Netflix and this is someone's wish fulfillment wish.

I remember I had trouble with Dynamic Forces. Something like that happened to me. Not only that, but they charged me twice for an order I never got. And they would always say that they would always email you when something was shipped but not in this case. I had to use the credit card company also. Dynamic Force's is owned by the owner of Dynamite comics. I don't know if he knows how his company is so crooked or not. I remember every time I called the credit card company up I would get a different person, with an Indian voice. Each one seemed to acting independently so there was mass confusion.

Venom starring Tom Hardy

Venom starring Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams is a pretty good movie. It is basically separate from the Marvel universe as we know it. This movie could be a standalone horror movie. There is no Iron Man or Nick Fury to show a crossover to the Marvel Universe. And Stan Lee, when he makes his came appearance. .. it is almost at the end of the movie. Shortly after the credits run at the end of the movie there is a breakaway to show who the villain is in the next Venom movie. And yes, it is who everyone thinks it is. Then the credits roll on again and at the very end there is a two to three minute sequence from the animated spider-verse verse movie coming up.

Has sort of 1950s science-fiction feel... You know an alien type being mysteriously appearing on Earth and taking over human bodies and such.

Hope they do a better job on the Laurel and Hardy movie than they did on The Three Stooges. I remember reading that Stan Laurel who lived in an apartment in Los Angeles in the 60's, I think, and when fans came by he would invite them in and be very hospitable. I think there is a Laural and Hardy Museum in Georgia.

This movie is for all the Quentin Tarantino fans waiting for a Quentin Tarantino to finally make a decent movie again. This movie stars Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm and Dakota Johnson. Bad times at the El Royale takes place in the late 60s and has the early Quentin Tarantino style, just done by another director. Not quite perfect, but still satisfying. Very violent, but that is the Tarantino way.

Hot Comic Books for Fall 2018

colbalt91

This week's hot book has to be the secret variant cover to Venom # 7's regular cover. I do not mean a cover B or a cover C. This week's Venom # 7 has a cover that shows Venom sticking his tongue out while all the regular common covers show him gritting his teeth. Supposedly the ratio is 1 to 10 for this cover. I found a cover at a shop that does not pay attention too much. Another shop had the cover going for $19.99 right off the bat.
