This is probably the cover image that Rob Liefeld swiped from to draw his most notorious Captain America cover ever drawn.

The story is that J.G. Jones took art he'd drawn for this story to a convention. Jim Shooter looked at the art and hired him for DEFIANT Comics where his first comic art saw print. When DEFIANT shut down, Rant was published with J.G. Jones art in 2 issues by Boneyard Press.

One of the few CGC graded comics I own. Bought the comic from a Christian book store off of a spinner rack.

I have a couple of those. Such a trippy read. (Spoiler: Hansi learns Jesus > Nazis)
High grade Spire should be easier to find than they are. When comics have odd distribution, piles get filed or misfiled... Where are the missing (hoarded?) Spires?

"The Hiding Place" is a Spire Nazi POW camp comic. It fits the theme.

I've never seen any original art surface. I felt ripped off by the low grade on this. It's one reason I have no interest in resubmitting to them.

I would love to have a full set of their stuff with price variants.

Wow! That sure is a Will Eisner cover. They only had enough budget for one color on the cover? Kinda adds to the cool factor.

I'd think any comic collector who's also used a M16 in a video game would need a copy of that.

I'm shocked that these aren't seen more often. He did others, but I'm not sure of the extent.

The artist needs to take a break from strip clubs. This isn't the perspective by which we view most women we encounter.

The problem is that the series changed names around #142. The guide lists it under Uncanny X-Men even though the correct name for issue #18 does not include the word "Uncanny".

Charlton CRIME AND JUSTICE #26

There are a lot of interesting comics from Charlton in the 50's that had short runs. With the collapse of the industry and Charlton's flooded facility, much of the stuff from that time period seems in short supply. I have the first printing of EC's Impact #1 that was done by Charlton. It has different color title on the cover than the more common 2nd printing. I also have a pre-code Charlton comics with a Valor (EC) cover. There was strange stuff going on. I wouldn't mind having Zaza the Mystic or Nature Boy either.

Years ago I had an old comic store owner tell me to never make it public that you've got a valuable comic collection. (So if anyone asks, I've just got 5,000 copies of the entire NFL SuperPro run.)

Although some of my comics have noteworthy value, I think it would take me and a thief working together for a week to locate anything worth stealing. For some reason, if I'm looking for a comic, it's never where I remembered putting it.

My dad used to talk about a character in the 50's that had an Iron Jaw. I think the original "Iron Jaw" character was in a crime comics series. A thug with an iron jaw makes more sense than a barbarian with an iron jaw.

When storing my comics, I do keep them together. When officially listing them, I like the indicia to be the law and I prefer... yes prefer... that they be listed by official name. I can find things by modifying my searches, but it sends mixed signals to the new collectors to say "look at the indicia" in one post and "ignore the indicia" in another. This harkens back to my days as a kid and I didn't know there was a difference between "Marvel Tales" (featuring Amazing Spiderman reprints) and the actual series "Amazing Spiderman". To complicate things further, my first X-Men comic was #78 that was a reprint and those comics like to show the cover of the issue they were reprinting inside the comic. Going by the indicia became a big deal to me and I never had a problem figuring out what went together when storing them. The guide can list them however they want. When I list them, I only go by the indicia.

Your Opinion: Most Iconic Covers

Defiant1
Defiant1
It would've been hard not to notice Turok #1 in 1993. My friend's store ordered around 6,000 copies because he was selling wholesale to used book stores and sports card dealers. He actually increased the price on the book the following week in his store not realizing it had been over-ordered by everyone else. I had to tell him that everyone else had far more than they could sell.

When I think "iconic", I think "Action Comics #1". The cover image doesn't excite me, but it is what I'd define as iconic. If I was going to post any covers in the thread, it would be covers that I like such as Psychoanalysis #3. In all honesty, there's nothing iconic about it. I just like it. I guess Hulk #181 would be a cover I like that is also iconic. Having collected comics for over 40 years, the iconic covers bore me the most because I've seen them for over 40 years. The obscure, rare, and/or very well illustrated covers interest me far more.

Jesse,

Your links are duds because you are using proper punctuation. When you paste the URL, can you put a space immediately following the URL so the period in your sentence doesn't get included as part of the hyperlink?

True and yes I agree with you. I will say some new and even a small amount of old collectors don't know about the indicia, I can understand that, it took me a book that the cover title and the indicia being different to understand the importance of the indicia.
By saying look at the indicia hopefully a poster will find what a indicia is and use it. Confusing someone is not what I was trying for. Saying use the indicia will get results if not don't use by "modifying" your search, like you do, can get results.
Try yourself to look up the issue the original post ask to find. Did you have a problem finding it? I doubt it. People that don't take a short time to find a book, instead of hoping for a instant find, they give up to easily. I will say at times on this site you search for a book and zero finds come up. That happens.
Collectors like you have a wealth of knowledge for everyone that come to this forum to learn from. I just tried to help, that is all. From all of your posts I know I'm less than you in collecting and knowledge but I try. I'll keep coming back to learn from people like you.

Less than me in collecting and knowledge? I seriously doubt that. Your knowledge is probably more specialized in other areas. I've been at this a long time, but I'm all ears when I'm hanging around people who know stuff that I don't know.
I tell people that I know a little of everything and a lot of nothing. Amassing more and more comics that take up more and more space has less appeal to me now. I spend more time collecting info and I'd be better classified as a novice comics historian. Last year I was confusing Star Lord & Star Hawk. Much of my comics knowledge is dissolving away as I get older. You are welcome to question anything I say. You are welcome to disagree. You are welcome to take pride in anything you own and feel no shame. The most valuable comics I own are the ones I bought as a 9 year old and wrote my name on them. The covers are falling off because I read them repeatedly. The key silver age books that I acquired years later are nice to own, but the ones that inspired me to collect comics at age 9 are priceless.

We are close in age. There is no dignity in getting older. The thing about medical problems is that everyone has them. People don't know that James Earl Jones was a chronic stutterer. He overcame it by singing his words because singing is done in a different portion of the brain. People don't know that Bugs Bunny brought Mel Blanc out of a coma after a serious car wreck. He was unresponsive and someone said "What's up Doc?" Mel Blanc responded in Bugs Bunny's voice and they brought him out of the coma by communicating with his cartoon voices. The brain is an amazing thing. Don't focus on the things you struggle with. Don't let it make you feel like something is wrong. Focus on the things you can do and see what else you can do. You'll amaze yourself.

Who's Your Favorite Cover Artist?

Defiant1
Defiant1
I don't have a favorite, but I like any cover that is well done and rendered without a cartoon style of art. It doesn't have to be photo-realistic. I like Jusko's and Alex Ross paintings, but sometimes something small will set it off and I'll like it a lot.

Some covers I like a lot:

Epic Illustrated #6 - I like the elaboarate tentacles.

Psychoanalysis #3 - I like the eyes

Shock Suspenstories # 16 - I like the use of light & shadow

War Dancer #1 - The orange clouds

I liked it enough to buy the color art:

I'm sure there are countless others I like.
