That's very abnormal. It does sound like they might have gotten wet. Water damage would severely drop the value.

Gladstone EC Reprints

This is more for educational & information purposes. I quit adding comic scans long ago due to the very long delays.

It was reported online that Gladstone Comics have Canadian price variants as well as US Newsstand variants.
This probably applies to the Disney titles also, but I can't confirm if certain time frames apply to this info.

My investigations appear to confirm that the Gladstone EC reprints do have 3 versions of each issue.

How to tell the difference:

1)
Direct Market versions do not have the "cc" (Curtis Circulation)
distributors mark below the price. They would be without a bar code on
the back cover (an assumption). They have dual US/Canadian pricing.

The US price on this one is $1.95.

2) The U.S. newsstand versions will be priced the
same as the direct market version and they will have the "cc" (Curtis
Circulation) distributors mark below the price
. They will have a bar
code on the back cover (an assumption).

The US price on this one is $1.95.

3) The Canadian price variants are
newsstand versions that will be priced more than the direct market
version
. They will have the "cc" (Curtis Circulation) distributors mark
below the price
. They will have a bar code on the back cover (an assumption). All appear to be $2.50 regardless of the U.S. price.

The Canadian price on this is $2.50

These are the scans (or photographs), I've collected online:
http://comicchecklist.atwebpages.com/EC/Gladstone/Gladstone_EC_Reprints.html

The image quality varies depending upon what was available online.

It will be tough to locate images of the Canadian versions.

On the CPG site, the following images are posted.:

Haunt of Fear - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/haunt-of-fear-the-ec-reprint/xlyq

Tales From the Crypt - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/tales-from-the-crypt/xlxu

3 - Direct Market
4 - Direct Market
5 - US Newsstand
6 - Direct Market

Two-Fisted Tales - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/two-fisted-tales-ec-reprint/xlyr
This listing is an error.

Gladstone did not print the hardcovers.

That would have been printed by Russ Cochran around that time period.

(It's fun splitting hairs since Russ still would have been involved with Gladstone.)

Vault of Horror - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/vault-of-horror-the/xlvv

1 - Direct Market

Weird Science - https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/weird-science/xlwx

4 - Direct Market

That's
actually pretty good. Comics.org is not listing most of these either
and they have a Canadian variant listed as the last issue of one title.

In order to be complete as a VVSS versions, it should have a little sheet saying it's a VVSS version.

I think there is an early one (with bloodshot maybe?) that didn't have the embossed stamp, but most do.

Doesn't answer the question...

Why is IDW publishing a MARVEL comic? Marvel has been publishing their books for years...

???????

EDIT: Found out they have a partnership you could have just said that...

I don't follow modern comics, but I thought they were only publishing the comics aimed at young children.

I agree with that. The thing I agree with most is "get your money tied up in things WORTH MONEY"
If people want a first appearance now and the value has escalated, time will make people want it more.

People try to define themselves as collector OR investors. You can do both. You can collect good investments.

Wait.... buy Giant-Sized Defenders #3? Why? I bought it when it came out.

FF#67? Why? I bought it around 1981.

X-Men #120-130? I bought those when they came out.

Pick something better!

Adding a .3 Grade for coverless comics

I don't want to own any comic in a .3 grade.

They might as well add negative grades. LOL!
I don't care though. People can buy what they want or grade it however.
If I'm buying, I only care if it's something I want and whether the price is acceptable.

Are you on a PC?

If so, download Irfanfiew for free. Download the program, then download the plugins exe file to get full function for the program.
It will crop, resize, rotate, convert.... Whatever you want. You can even make a screensaver. Heck, it'll even play MP3 &
OGG files.

No program has been used by me more in the past 23 years.

I can see how modern comic collectors suffer because nothing lasting and relevant happens in comics these days. A re-imagining of a character somehow classifies him as a new character.

I do have a couple of questions...

What Earth is depicted in Tales to Astonish #13?

What Earth is depicted in Hulk Annual #5?

if your bag is sealed and $2.50 cover price with the poster etc, you do not have the blank pages one. that was a retailer promo pack version that came in it's own special packaging and sent to retailers. from what I can tell by pics, it was not polybagged inside the pack.

Correct. The "blank pages" version are advance samples provided to retailers so they could show customers what the gimmick cover would look like on the actual comic itself. I think I have two with blank pages and I think they are different version of the gimmick cover. They were not polybagged as that would have defeated the purpose of the demo.

Autographs/Signatures on Comics!

Does the same hold true for signed original art? I inherited two splash pages and they are both signed, one with a personalization.

Original art is one-of-a-kind so it's unlikely that a signature will make it more or less valuable.

Signature collecting is an entirely separate stand-alone hobby. The less often a person signs and the more notable the person is, the more likely their autograph will increase the value of something.
If it's an artist of average reputation who is only known to the comics community, the autograph would have little or no impact on the value of the art.

There might be situations where the signature of a high profile artist outside of the comic collecting community could increase the value of original comic art, but it would be difficult to make that assertion since art is one-of-a-kind anyway.

Generally speaking, collectors are going to be less interested in items personalized to someone else unless that someone else is famous or just happens to have the same name as them.

It's an untrimmed early pressing of Prime #1 that was sold with a certificate from Malibu.
I think it's a valid collectible that should go for a high premium.

The guy who runs this blog is one of the foremost online experts in regard to Malibu. He goes by the name DePluto online.

The prices were useless in the 90's when I got back into comics.

There were comics you could not buy for less than $75 and the guide listed it for $5 even after it was updated.

The market reports would say it was going for $75, yet the guide listed it as $5.

The market reports are interesting, but not worth the money.

My biggest problem is that it has no ambition to be all inclusive.

They don't list undergrounds or B&W comics.

They are selective on what color comics they want to list.

If it doesn't list comics I own, I have no need to use it.
