Has the original art supplanted the comics?

Original art is one-of-a-kind, so it's simple supply and demand. A Kelly Jones comic may have half-a-million copies published. Retailers or collectors were willing to pay 50% of cover price or more for the comic when it came out. An original page of art from the book is averaging out at less than 4 cents if all the purchasers of the comic contributed proportionally to buy it. If you factor that there are Kelly Jones fans that didn't buy the comic, it's even more justification for the price.

Podcasts bore me. Most have annoying loud music introductions that waste my time. They will fill up time with useless babbling and opinions that I don't care about, Unless a podcast has deeply informative content that interests me, I usually react "What is this garbage?" and turn them off. For that reason, I ignore all referrals or recommendations to listen to podcasts.

I met Wrightson and talked to him, but I opted to get an original art page from Paul Gulacy instead.

That's an interesting perspective on valuing the original art, defiant1.

I still prefer comics, but art fans only have one option if they want to own the original art page... that is to outbid everyone else who wants it.

Sometimes art seems overpriced, but you have to outbid what it's worth to the seller who owns it. Otherwise they'll just keep it.

Yeah? Where was that, and when?

Atlanta... Dragon Con. I don't remember the year, but I'm guessing 2004.

It seems like I bought a lot that year...

Gulacy art page, Olivia preliminary watercolor sketch, Brunner preliminary cover art (to an indy comic)... and more.

I try to collect at least one page of art if I like an artist and it's affordable. I'm cheap.

I know Bob Burden, so I bought this..

Here's the Paul Gulacy page..

Here's an EC comics page...

A Ditko page...

A DEFIANT color art cover painted by JayJay Jackson.

A Budd Root Cavewoman:Rain page from issue #1

A Dave Cockrum page from Broadway Comics

Dave Berg "Lighter side of.." from Mad Magazine.

I have some diverse stuff. These are just image links I could grab quickly.

I don't follow DC, so my opinion isn't relevant. I'd answer Burt Ward.

Yeah. The last issue says "#80 in a four issue limited series."

They continued the numbering and it didn't stop at #4.

Transformers came out when I'd outgrown toys and wasn't watching cartoons anymore. My friend insisted that I own the last issue of this series because he felt it was undervalued and that it would be worth a lot more over time. He gave me a copy and pointed that out to me. I thought it was amusing also.

There's nothing that strikes me as having significant value. I'd say they are genuine, just not necessarily in high demand. Things like that used to be easily bought in bulk for cheap. There may be some interest in a title like Action Comics, but most collectors are going to focus on specific issues that have more value. He might have found someone to pay £2 to £5 if he was patient, but then he'd sell a lot less. If he bought them when they came out or if he bought a box full very cheap years later, it could be a fun way to make money. They really don't even seem old to me. The Rawhide Kid story is probably a reprinted story, but it's still part of the regular numbering for that title. I'd have frowned upon it when it came out, but looking at it now it seems kinda interesting. Not interesting enough for me to buy it, but it's still interesting.

I've been pretty good at buying things I want when they are affordable, so I don't sit around thinking I "should-have" or "could-have". If I didn't buy something, there was a good reason.

At certain points in your collecting, there will be a really key book that is "barely affordable" with your budget. If you want to own it and not regret passing on it years later, you have to commit to buying it. The odds are that once you spend the money, some unexpected emergency or bill will pop up afterwards and leave you wondering if you made the right choice. After some more years go by, that financial pinch you got through will be over but you'll still have that comic that has increased in value. Are there things I would have done differently? Sure. I would've begged my parents to buy me Fantastic Four# 1 for $40 because that's what it was priced in a catalog I still own from my childhood.

I always imagined that when I retire, I'll sit back and reread my whole comic collection. As I've gotten older, I'm pretty sure that will never happen. I own so many comics that I'm sure many will never be opened again by me.

Stargirl television series

It seemed very derivative of hundreds of plots I've seen before.
All the characters are likeable. By that I mean watchable.
There were no actors that repulsed me enough that I would not want to watch the show every week.
We've seen the magical staff before. It was Dr. Strange's cape in the 2016 movie.
We've seen kids who protest against their step dad.
We've seen kids who don't fit in at school.
We've seen musty old crates holding secrets prior to this show.
The "conflicts" setup in the pilot for future resolution are cliché,
tiresome, and somewhat of a cookie cutter extraction from other movies
and TV shows.
I watched the show and just thought "Oh. Okay"
There was nothing exciting about it.
Most of it was quite predictable.
I suspect that the special effects budget will drop drastically after the pilot episode.

I expect at least 25% of the future episodes to focus on boring social
interactions and not superhero activities that require a nice budget.

Right or wrong, I was sent a link to watch it for free. It was so bad that I had no interest in watching it al all. I skipped around to different sections and it just seemed to get worse.

Stargirl streams on the DC Universe on Mondays and then on Tuesday night it is on a CBS affiliate called the C&W. I watched last night's episode and once again the quality was excellent and no let up. It has been a while since I can actually look forward to wanting to watch an hour long episode of anything. I thought I saw somewhere on the internet that Rotten Tomatoes had given the first episode a 93. In this episode the show emphasizes the wearing of masks to protect the families of superheroes. This is a clear departure from modern day superhero storytelling and hearkens back to the old days where it made sense to wear a mask. I think the doing away of the mask is more an ego thing with an actor to help convince them to take on a superhero role. Most actors do not want to take a role where their face is hidden.

I definitely agree with your last statement.

Didn't a Marvel character refer back to Sam Hill? Ben Grimm maybe?

I knew about the character. Is this actually a comic? or is it mainly text inside?

Normally, I think of Margot Robbie as being extremely sexy with an above average body. I saw nothing sexy about her in the snippets of this I watched. She just looked average or worse.

I'll sit through a bad movie with a hot female She wasn't hot enough to make the movie watchable for me. The little Marilyn Monroe musical homage was horrible. It made me cringe it was so bad.

Honestly, I'm not sure I even understand the issue. The OP said "Is there a way I can block communication and offers to buy books I have listed for sale??"

Why would you not want communications about books you've indicated you are willing to sell? Is it that you're selling them on eBay and you don't want to be messaged via CPG, or something?

Some people put outrageous offers on books, you know, like $1,000,000 on a $10 book, just so nobody else can put a reasonable offer on it. smile

In general, some people spam venues where sales occur and try to bait you into revealing email or personal information. They add you to spam lists or disrupt your ability to sell.
