Who's Your Favorite Cover Artist?

I should've mentioned Frank Frazetta in my post. Joe Jusko's my favorite living artist after Frazetta died. I'll probably take flak for this, but I never liked the mouths and body poses of some of Jack Kirby's work. I was reading an old Machine Man recently, and all the soldiers in this full-page panel had the same face. By contrast, in an old Ditko comic, every face in the background crowd was different.
That Shock Suspenstories # 16 is ART. Not a drawing, but ART! You're right about the lighting, shading, shadows. Did anyone mention Dave Dorman? (I would like some Jusko art. ) Late 70s isn't Kirby's best work. And he gets bonus points for the sheer volume of work. Recent Ditko covers aren't awesome. They should probably count as Underground Comics because he's working so hard at keeping them out of mainstream outlets.
Robbie could you please show the most legendary issue of Weird Science-Fantasy #29 that you have. (Yes i know, you have 2 copies, Only awesome people have that many ) I'll re-post the poster i have of it as a reference later. |

Sifting through my photobucket uploads of scans from my collection. Not sure where I got this, but it sure looks like Superman vs. Popeye.

I don't collect Swamp Thing, so this is one of those things I'll find in my collection and think "I didn't know I owned that?!"

After originally making a typo above, I wondered how disgusting it would be to have a "Swamp Thong" comic.
This was at Supernova Comic Con. in Sydney back 2 years ago...He wanted way to much for it, Also it was a crappy-dappy copy |

+1, and mine is low grade.
I don't consider mine high grade. There are several reasons I end up with multiples.
1) I think it's a key book that's undervalued. If I can flip it for a profit, I can use that as leverage to get something more valuable that I really want even more. 2) I think it's good trade fodder for something I want even more. I traded a stack of duplicate comics from the 70's and 80's for my first Strange tales #110. I was almost flat broke at the time. I had one year where I was essentially unemployed and made less than $10,000 the whole year! 3) I'm trying to upgrade my copy. I think everyone wants the best copy that they can (or will willingly) afford. In 1982, I paid $125 for a copy of X-Men #1 through the mail. It was all I could afford. I was VERY displeased with the condition upon arrival... but it was all that I could afford and it was the only retailer that had one advertised for sale. Later in the year, I'd saved some money and my local comic shop picked up a similar condition copy and had it priced $100. I bought it with the hope to upgrade. I was hoping a retailer might be willing to do a 2 for 1 trade if they had a higher grade copy. A few months went by and I couldn't afford to date and collect comics. I dropped comics for a decade and put them in storage. By the time I got them out of storage I liked having 2 copies. It had really increased in value.
I was buying the 1st Shield in an attempt to upgrade my copy. I felt it was undervalued. Who knew they'd make a TV show about SHIELD and feature them in a string of Marvel movies? I felt it was undervalued, but maybe Marvel Studios helped me out a little unintentionally.

I to bought the First S.H.I.E.L.D. about 5 yrs ago for $40 (5.0-6.0) Thought the same, Cool book didn't think they'd make a movie Lol. I know what it's like to be flat broke. I just paid of my Ute & now looking to expand on some back issues & SNES games. Just bought Doctor Strange & Labyrinth 30th anniversary edition on Blue-Ray.
Nice story about your X-Men #1. In the early 2000's i bought both a NES & SNES boxed & complete for $150 each on eBay. It was alot of money for me at the time & broke the wallet Lol. The seller later contacted me & said would i like a Optimus Prime toy complete in box for the same price ($150) As much as i love the Transformers i said hell no, Can't afford it anyway...& we all know how that turned out edited by Gilgandra on 3/2/2017 |

Secrets Behind the Comics (1947)

I was a little annoyed after getting this because the retailer had a nicer copy for sale but he had it hidden until he sold this one with stains on the front cover. I would've bought the nicer copy. Things like that make me want to boycott a seller.
Cool, Seen that on the old forum...What do the inside pages look like Defiant? (sweet stuff in your BI thread) |

Your second Black Panther #2 is a Texeira cover...The first one is by Bruce Timm (it's the variant) I love Texeira's work, Don't have any of those Black Panthers.
