That is a very good question I must ponder
I think it depends on the age and desirability of the comic. While 4.0 or below may be no difference - I believe there is a lot of variation in the in 4.0 to 7.0 realm.
I just sold an Agents of Atlas variant that unfortunate had been graded at 7.0. It was still worth $15 - which is significantly more than raw grade of $9. While this is not a big dollar amount - it is 50% higher. In percentage that is big.
Yes, i believe the algorithm needs to be seriously review. Just my opinion.

Why are some title's values so grossly overvalued?

Hi,
This has bugged me for awhile. Why are some titles so insanely overvalued, when they're selling for so much less on sites like eBay? The difference in "collectible" value and actual buyer price can't be that crazy.
Example:
Superman Unchained #1 Sketch Variant CGC 9.8 eBay sold one 11/25/17 for approx. $170 CPG has the same title vauled at $1792
That's an insane margin. Either we're paying WAY to little for some titles, or CPG is way off on values. I'd be interested in knowing a bit about the formula that's used to generate these values in the first place.
I have more examples, but here's just one more to further demonstrate irregularity.
DK III Master Race #1 Jim Lee 1:500 Variant CGC 9.8 eBay sold one approx. $380.00 11/13/17 CPG: $4,399.50
Can someone please explain, because this makes me feel like CPG doesn't track all titles evenly. Some seem to be updated regularly, while others like the above get overlooked for years. I want to use CPG as my go-to for values, but I can't do that when so many titles are so off base.
Let me know. Thanks. edited by zanoskex on 1/13/2018 edited by zanoskex on 1/15/2018
As I am sure you know - always check more than one source on prices. CPG is not infallible. If you find all prices are that high - immediately send the comic to me - I will pay you a much more reasonable price for it.
Seriously - remember there is a cycle on this hot items.. Black Panther comics will soon be on the down cycle. Just my opinion KDS |

Comic Price Guide as "Go To" for Comic Sales
kds_comics
|
My thoughts on your purported objective to be the "go to" spot on the internet for comic book buying and selling.
Currently the obvious leader is eBay - due to volume. There are also My Comic Shop and several other lesser know site like Comic Book Realms and Sell My Comics
Suggestions 1) Take the best features from the leader - a) Organize by Modern, Copper, Bronze, Silver, Golden Age b) Make the sales area searchable c) Charge a small fee either for listing or for sales d) Allow a sale page to link to PayPal via HTML. 2) Improve on the leader's model a) Do not charge percentage - this kills sales. Just charge a small fee per completed transaction. b) Total comic sales in ad must be over $7.50 (or what ever we think is a good minimum. Perhaps $4 price of a new comic) There is no money and too much junk on eBay for $1 each comics. Ridiculous. c) Give the little guy a better chance. eBay is littered with dealers who have employees with little to do early in the day writing eBay ads. The purpose appears to be more for free advertising than real sales. d) CPG needs to implement a system to certify sellers (or a rating). I give a money back guarantee. I am sure many others here would do as well. Most of us are collectors, not dealers.
What is good not that people don't know
3) I was able to link directly to my "make an offer" page for a specific comic in the classified ads. Perhaps you could automate this process to make it easier. 4) Facebook just does not cut it as a sales vehicle
Suggestion for improvement
4) Although CPG asks for minimum I will take - there is room for negotiation. I think you should revive the auction "one cent" minimum with a reserve by the seller. eBay has killed this feature with ridiculous fee for creating a reserve.
Have I used the term "ridiculous:" enough with eBay?
Okay - let's focus on CPG. Good luck. I am invested in the process and hope you succeed.

Robert, thank you for your well thought out suggestions. We will strongly consider everything you've said.
I have sold on eBay and realize how much money they take. Total fees for my personal sales were between 20 and 25%! (for July 2017- January 2018) That is painfully too much. We have a unique opportunity here because of eBay's greed. Currently, there are tens of thousands of books for sale on CPG and plenty of sales, but we want to expand this. Our short-term goal is to develop a feedback system to build buyer confidence. It would include an automated "responsiveness" evaluation. If someone makes you an offer and you don't respond within 7 days your responsiveness rating will be lowered. We do not plan to implement any kind of percentage. I agree with you completely, percentage kills sales. Ron
A suggested alternative is to have a "once a month" auction for a few days. This will allow you regular time to do stuff with and limit your time/effort/overtime on the programming push for a few days.

In the last 2 years, I have submitted several missing issues but I have not seen a response or resolution to any of these. These include Like a Virus, Mars 1938, Bill Gates and Archie-America's Typical Teenager. I am attaching a file with the cover scans of these to this posting. Please advise if I missed that these were added or why these have not been added.
In addition, there is a 25th Anniversary addition to Maus by Art Spiegelman. I do not have a cover scan so I will get one and submit it as a missing issue as well.
Thanks, Billy Galerston

These are either incredibly obscure or are not considered comic books.
Suggest you check mycomicshop.com, comicbookrealms, and other sites that list comic books. If you find one of these books on their site you may have more justification of listing it here.
I could not find the first two on MyComicShop - they cover some items not covered on Comics Price Guide. If not on MyComicShop is is probably not saleable.
You may want to look on book sites rather than comic sites if you cannot find these on comic guides. Just a suggestion

First - let me say congrats on this issue - Two-Gun Kid #77. Recent sale on eBay for $66 in 6.5 to 7.0 condition. Right on the money with 6.5 at $63 and 7.0 at $71.
good job. Bravo.
A couple of minor items from my recent "in person" sales (sorry, I have destroyed all the evidence).
Batman Eternal #1 graded 9.8 - CPG price $33.60 Actual Sales $40. Spider-Girl #0 - CPG price graded 9.6 $28.80 - actual price $37.50 Spider-Girl #1 - CPG price graded 9.6 $28.80 - actual price $37.50
Keep up the good work - you guys a a little conservative, but close. I'd rather you be conservative than like that other overpriced guide. Helps me when I use the guide to buy comics.

The easiest way is if you have runs of books, those are easy to load into the system. Otherwise it's individually adding them to your collection then listing them for sale. With any system it takes time to sell that many books so be patient. ron
Bummer. I've got 6600+ issues and I was really hoping there was a bulk import feature.
Any thoughts/plans to add something like that?
As noted below - it can be easier to delete rather than add. If you have 50 or more issues of the 150 issue series Marvel Team Up - likely it will be better add the whole run and then delete the ones you do not have. Or as noted - you can enter a run - if you are missing a few issues you can do a secondary operation to delete these.
The plus side of CPG is you can enter a grade and a price paid for each issue. On the other hand, you are not alone in asking admins for import feature. There is a definite need for this. I can create and/or edit a list in a spreadsheet way faster than on this site. Even if this is just a spreadsheet by title or by publisher that would be great - just give us the format to adhere to.
One more vote for admins to re-look at import feature - that would be me.

One more thing I noticed - on main page under Sold comics there is a bar. If you could list last 100 or 200 sold comics - I think this would draw a lot of folks to your site. Every wants to know what issues really sold for - not just list prices. The proof is in the transaction amount! (Or the pudding - yeah, I like pudding). |

Finally starting to get my comic room in order. Here is a sample from one shelf. Hope to put up more later.
I am using the "Add Attachments" instructions from earlier in this email. We will see if this works.
Iron Man #2 - nice lower grade issues - it shows well.
Amazing Spider-Man King Size - this was a bargain in the days of 15 cent comics.
Batman and Batgirl Hot Wheels versus My Little Ponies. No room is complete without Ponies or Adventure Time or sim liar recent Pop Culture item. JIMHO.

I've noticed over the last couple of months that the site is moving much slower than in the past, and often throws an error when I am changing the condition of a comic or moving it to a box. Seems like about half the time, it takes me more than one try to do these things, and the delay while it tries (only the fail) takes up a lot of time. I use Boxes a great deal and it can be slow. I get around this by using multiple tabs - I'm a multi-tasking kind of guy. You are correct - could use looking into. Similar to commercial programs like JIRA that have to re-get HTML database - makes for slow going. Someone needs to look into speeding this up. Please! KDS |

We've talked about something like that. It would be for paying members since our competitors often copy things on our site. Most people would be shocked at the number of comics bought and sold on CPG everyday. Those sales help us stay current with our pricing.
