I'll start with the series I'm collecting, but I haven't bought any in a
long while.
I collect to simply own the books.
It's always nice to see
pristine examples of a printing press' capabilities, but that's not why I
buy comics.

Tales To Astonish #1

A week or so ago, I stopped into a local comic shop while I was waiting for new tires at a shop nearby.
I saw an old EC comic on the wall. The color palette was off and the
width on it was that of a more modern comic. I thought that was odd, so I
look at it more closely and realized it must be a Canadian reprint from
the 50's. I asked the shop to let me see the indicia and it was indeed a
Superior comics reprint from the 1950's. I've been wanting one for
years since I've been scouring the web looking for scans to complete my
cover gallery. I shelled out the high price. It's got color fading in
one corner. It's got a tear on the cover, and it's either the worst
miscut I've ever owned or it was trimmed decades ago. I didn't analyze
the edge too closely, because I didn't care. These are rare!

Weird Fantasy #14 (Superior Comics)

Unfortunately, the cut is so bad and the
defects are too bad for me to use the scan on my cover gallery. Still,
I'm glad to own one. Did I say these are rare? LOL! I haven't scanned
the indicia yet. I plan to do so.

My index of what might exist is here:

The only company worse was Charlton who used a printing press made to print cereal boxes.

Loo Flush

Charlton is something I miss. It added variety to
the spinner racks. When you spun past the hot rod comics and the romance
comics to find that Marvel Comic you wanted, you knew you were making the right
choice.

It was interesting to see the variety.
I am collecting their adult humor comics which I never saw for sale in a store anywhere when they were still publishing them.

Wow! That sure is a Will Eisner cover. They only had enough budget for one color on the cover? Kinda adds to the cool factor.

I'd think any comic collector who's also used a M16 in a video game would need a copy of that.

I'm shocked that these aren't seen more often. He did others, but I'm not sure of the extent.

I don't collect Swamp Thing, so this is one of those things I'll find in my collection and think "I didn't know I owned that?!"

After originally making a typo above, I wondered how disgusting it would be to have a "Swamp Thong" comic.

This was at Supernova Comic Con. in Sydney back 2 years ago...He wanted way to much for it, Also it was a crappy-dappy copy upset

In all honesty, I've never tracked the value of this comic. I was more of a Marvel fan. I was buying long boxes of comics in the 90's when the industry imploded and stores started closing. I was also buying "reader copy" collections during the same time period, but most weren't that great. This was never something I intentionally sought out. It was just something that ended up in a bulk collection that I bought very cheaply. I do have an appreciation of Wrightson's art, so this was something I set aside when I discovered I owned it. I then forgot about it until I scanned the cover a few years back. I forgot about it again until I saw the scan in my photobucket account. I do think it's neat.

I've been collecting so long that when I see Hulk #181, my mind remembers plopping down 25ยข for it at a convenience store. When I see what some of this stuff goes for now, I'm actually horrified because I would never pay that much.
When I pay $100 for some non-key pre-hero Tales to Astonish issue, newer collectors are horrified. It works both ways.

Pick up what you can afford when you can afford it, and eventually other people will be looking at your collection with envy. I had to be creative or stretch my budget to get the silver age Marvel keys I own, but those are the comics I appreciate the most today.

If you REALLY love comics, that "Secrets Behind the Comics" is a must-have. (And I DON'T have... YET!)

I'm still working on my full run of Battlestar Galactica and Micronauts. I ended up with about 4 copies of Micronauts #1 - "Oooo! THIS one looks better than the last one I bought!"

Keep this stuff a-coming! Cuz I'm a-lookin'!

I always loved the Gold Key issues especially with the Russ Manning artwork. I always figured that this character would make it to the movies first as they would not be too much CGI needed for Magnus, only for the robots.
