Those old Journey into Mystery issues are difficult to find in that condition. Usually, they are beaten up.

I see what you mean about the colors on the cover. It particularly looks as though they ran the black plate before the magenta (at the least), leading to obvious hue changes between the black in different areas. (Some places it's a "blue-black" others it is a "ruddy-black", others it is just "black".)

Nice copy of FF #1. Wish I had one.

Trump book - is this really necessary? The man's ego is big enough in my opinion. (Also - don't be a hater - be a cooperator! - IMHO)

It's thin flat cardboard, but it looks realistic.


"What Dreams May Come" was visually a very interesting movie. The story was both dark and one of relentless hope. Robin Williams goes to heaven and then has to save his wife who went the other direction. Unfortunately, I did not feel that the ending was plausible. Artistically, I seem to recall that some scenes were like paintings that were fluid and in motion.

Charlton. Early pre-code. At their laziest... They had the lowest quality standards, and low pay, and lazy editors... Some creators used Charlton to tell stories the others wouldn't do. The first few seasons of Babylon 5 was the best, The rest are good, I have the Ultimate Collection (i had to get it from the UK) was hard to find for a time. Still getting through the set Lol. I did watch it back in the 90's. Would love to see it re-done today.
Sadly some of those lead actors are lost to us now.

I always loved the Gold Key issues especially with the Russ Manning artwork. I always figured that this character would make it to the movies first as they would not be too much CGI needed for Magnus, only for the robots.

I'm almost certain i had that along many other image books from around the time. I no longer have them (gave'm away to a kid that was living next door at the time...Damn that was in the late 90's) how time flies.

I do have Cyber Force #3 it was dedicated to Jack Kirby after hes death in 94'

Anyone who has read a Continuity book before 1990 has probably seen an ad for Freak Show. After almost 20 years from the time the first ads ran, I asked Bernie Wrightson if Freak Show would ever see the light of day. His response was, "Oh, it's coming out next month?"

So, it did come out from Image and I bought the hardback.



Sadly, he is in VERY poor health. He may not be around much longer.

Randy Queen was a local artist. Darkchylde looks VERY much like Jennifer the girl who sold him comics at a local comic shop.
I would mess with her and say things like "Wow, he sure imagined you with barely any clothes on at all!" She'd give me a look like she wanted to strangle me. It was priceless. She told me once that I was one of her favorite people because when the really annoying customers would come in and want to carry on really geeky conversations with her, I'd just say one or two sarcastic sentences and they'd shut up. Homage Studios had a fan club offering back around the time of Wildcats #2 I think. It was early. I was not a big image fan, but I joined the club to see what kind of freebies they'd send out.

If you REALLY love comics, that "Secrets Behind the Comics" is a must-have. (And I DON'T have... YET!)

I'm still working on my full run of Battlestar Galactica and Micronauts. I ended up with about 4 copies of Micronauts #1 - "Oooo! THIS one looks better than the last one I bought!"

I should have upgraded this. This is the copy I bought as a kid. Strangely, by the time he got his own series, I didn't like what they were doing with him. I always like the Marvel Spotlight issues better.

I was a little annoyed after getting this because the retailer had a nicer copy for sale but he had it hidden until he sold this one with stains on the front cover. I would've bought the nicer copy. Things like that make me want to boycott a seller.

I wonder if they'll ever put this guy in a movie...

I have some scattered issues of this series. I pick at collecting them when I see nice copies.

I don't consider mine high grade. There are several reasons I end up with multiples.

1) I think it's a key book that's undervalued. If I can flip it for a profit, I can use that as leverage to get something more valuable that I really want even more.

I dropped comics for a decade and put them in storage. By the time I got them out of storage I liked having 2 copies. It had really increased in value.

I was buying the 1st Shield in an attempt to upgrade my copy. I felt it was undervalued. Who knew they'd make a TV show about SHIELD and feature them in a string of Marvel movies? I felt it was undervalued, but maybe Marvel Studios helped me out a little unintentionally.

I'd think any comic collector who's also used a M16 in a video game would need a copy of that.

High grade Spire should be easier to find than they are. When comics have odd distribution, piles get filed or misfiled... Where are the missing (hoarded?) Spires?

"The Hiding Place" is a Spire Nazi POW camp comic. It fits the theme.

Exactly! When I see Hulk #181 going for large sums, I just remember paying cover price. There is not a lot of incentive for me to buy 70's & up comics at expensive prices now when I've been passing them over this long at a much lower price. I'm more interested in rarities or things I've never seen before.

The cash out of pocket for the AF #15 was only about $300. I bought Valiant comics in the 90's around the time they came out and traded my duplicates. The dealer who did the trade made money too.

Hey Defiant, nice early EC books. Land of the Lost is an okay read; much better than the radio show it's based on.
