I just got through watching Seth MacFarlane's new comedy series "The Orville." That is because I read somewhere a comment that said "The Orville" is more like Star Trek than the new Star Trek series. I have not seen the new series of Star Trek, but I do agree that "The Orville" is very much like a regular show of Star Trek.
Did McFarland want to do a serious role in the new Star Trek series, but was turned down, and then opted to get complete control of a comedy series that turned out to be "The Orville?" And by having complete control the network did not have time to view it and it was too late and they had to put it on the television as is?

Can't answer your question.

I've heard people say they like it, but I saw an episode last night and thought it was lousy. Cheap visuals in most scenes. Lame writing. Nothing about the guy makes me laugh. The only thing that is associate with his name that makes me laugh is stuff that he ripped off from Simpsons or other shows. I can watch Family guy and get flat out bored. Give me something from Mike Judge any day of the week and I'll watch it over anything Mr. Woodbury MacFarlane has done.

So how do you feel about Macfarlane?😜😄😄😄 Seeing one commercial for that show was enough to know it would suck.

It would appear that *maybe* I don't like his work. I went to see the movie Ted. During the middle of the movie, I needed to use the restroom. I walked out to the lobby, used the restroom, and then started walking back into the theater. I stopped and thought about it a second. I decided that I didn't even want to see the rest of the movie. I left the theater and was glad I did. Harsh language or situations don't offend me at all. I just don't think anything he's involved with is clever or creative.

Someone must like him as I read that his show has been picked up for next year. On my street I know a guy that looks forward to the show, Orville.

Yeah i would have done the same Defiant1.
I saw it on DVD & was not that impressed.
Never saw part 2. Macfarlane is one hell of a talented man but he needs to start on directing that talent else where ... Don't ask where Lol.
Loved family guy in the early days but now it's sick & sad.

He should just stick to his singing career. Family guy is pretty crude, but lots of immature people from all ages enjoy that show.

I relate more to Mike Judge's humor. Southpark's humor is so similar to mine that I avoid watching it. I was drawing a cartoon at the time Southpark came out and I'd have to scrap story ideas because someone would say "Oh yeah, they did that on last night's episode of Southpark." At one point, it was even being arranged for me to meet a Southpark producer to have them possibly turn my comic into an animated series. I backed out because it would've disrupted my life too much with no guarantee of it coming to fruition. To me though, Team America is the funniest movie ever made. I've seen Family Guy episodes where the only time I found it was funny was when they ripped off another show's content bit for bit.
