+1, and mine is low grade.

I don't consider mine high grade. There are several reasons I end up with multiples.

1) I think it's a key book that's undervalued. If I can flip it for a profit, I can use that as leverage to get something more valuable that I really want even more.
2) I think it's good trade fodder for something I want even more. I traded a stack of duplicate comics from the 70's and 80's for my first Strange tales #110. I was almost flat broke at the time. I had one year where I was essentially unemployed and made less than $10,000 the whole year!
3) I'm trying to upgrade my copy. I think everyone wants the best copy that they can (or will willingly) afford. In 1982, I paid $125 for a copy of X-Men #1 through the mail. It was all I could afford. I was VERY displeased with the condition upon arrival... but it was all that I could afford and it was the only retailer that had one advertised for sale. Later in the year, I'd saved some money and my local comic shop picked up a similar condition copy and had it priced $100. I bought it with the hope to upgrade. I was hoping a retailer might be willing to do a 2 for 1 trade if they had a higher grade copy. A few months went by and I couldn't afford to date and collect comics. I dropped comics for a decade and put them in storage. By the time I got them out of storage I liked having 2 copies. It had really increased in value.

I was buying the 1st Shield in an attempt to upgrade my copy. I felt it was undervalued. Who knew they'd make a TV show about SHIELD and feature them in a string of Marvel movies? I felt it was undervalued, but maybe Marvel Studios helped me out a little unintentionally.

I to bought the First S.H.I.E.L.D. about 5 yrs ago for $40 (5.0-6.0) Thought the same, Cool book didn't think they'd make a movie Lol.
I know what it's like to be flat broke. I just paid of my Ute & now looking to expand on some back issues & SNES games.
Just bought Doctor Strange & Labyrinth 30th anniversary edition on Blue-Ray.

Nice story about your X-Men #1.
In the early 2000's i bought both a NES & SNES boxed & complete for $150 each on eBay. It was alot of money for me at the time & broke the wallet Lol. The seller later contacted me & said would i like a Optimus Prime toy complete in box for the same price ($150)
As much as i love the Transformers i said hell no, Can't afford it anyway...& we all know how that turned out Whaaaaa?

I don't know toys or video game collecting, so I'm not aware of how that turned out. I assume the movie skyrocketed the price?
You can't put too much thought into what you passed on. You just have to be aware that if everyone thinks something is hot and everyone is telling you to buy something, that's probably not what's going to increase in price.

Nice stuff D.
But... I get excited about seeing it all... AND sad that I don't have it all!

My only Cap 117 looks like your Copy 1.

I'm still trying to find a nice Marvel Spotlight 5. I don't even have a crappy copy, and I've been a G.R. fan since I was 7.

I love a lot of Swamp Thing cover art. The water around his body as he's coming up out of it... nice.

I also got S.T. 135 for about $30 or $40 a couple years before the TV Show. And I forgot about having it until the first season was done! It's nice to see them go up!

Neat book:

Secrets Behind the Comics (1947)

I was a little annoyed after getting this because the retailer had a nicer copy for sale but he had it hidden until he sold this one with stains on the front cover. I would've bought the nicer copy. Things like that make me want to boycott a seller.

The Foom books are nice. I have none, but wouldn't mind the issues with Steranko in them. Don't know much about the series really but love the covers.

Foom was more like Marvel publishing their own fanzine. I used to see the ads as a kid. These were sentimental purchases.

Good to know. I see this as an undervalued book with potential. I would buy more if I saw them in nice condition. I rarely ever see this in stores.

The later issues have excellent art. Some of Marvel's best.

I don't have it handy to describe it in detail, but it's essentially a telling of how comics are made. I remember it had art samples showing you inking and lettering. It looked like an early tool to enlist comic creators. Mostly text, but it had art to show you what the text is talking about.

I had driven across town. When I saw it, I remembered it being on the spinner rack as a kid and passing on it. The condition of this was excellent and the price was reasonable. It smelled like it had just rolled off the printing press. I couldn't pass on it a second time.

Some of the Foom content is referred back to as being a "first". I 'think" John Byrne has some fan art in one before he was an artist working at Marvel.
