Mole somehow survived the massacre of the Morlocks by the Marauders. Soon Sabretooth attacked him and his friend Chicken Wings to finish what he started. After Sabretooth killed his friend, Mole managed to escape. He went through a wall, like a mole, and saw Opal Tanaka. He soon befriended her, but when Iceman did too, he left. When he was back in the tunnels, Sabretooth found him and almost killed him. Fortunately, Mole's powers instinctively activated allowing him to burrow deep enough to escape.
With his friends dead, Mole went into hiding in The Bronx until the mutant nation of Krakoa was publicly announced. Interested in the idea of mutants helping mutants, Mole moved to Krakoa. At one point he believed he saw Sabretooth walking around on the island despite his public imprisonment in the Pit, but believed it was a manifestation of his trauma. Having nightmares about it for weeks, he was eventually confronted in the middle of the night by Victor's fellow prisoner Third Eye in astral form. Many months later he met Third Eye again, now manifesting himself through the island.
