Halcyon was a deaf mutant with the power to retain a steady heartbeat. A math major at Columbia University, he was also a skilled street racer, whose power allowed him to have a characteristic breezy demeanor. When Tony Stark wanted to test his new 1978 Dodge Aspen, he approached the car meet frequented by Halcyon at Amsterdam Avenue to bet five thousand dollars. They made him race Halcyon, who beat Tony sharply. Tony would then regularly race Halcyon but never managed to beat him.
Following the return of the hyper-intelligent cyborg Korvac, Stark decided to seek help from allies who would not be on the villain's radar. Together with Patsy Walker, Tony enlisted Halcyon's help in finding these people, and he joined the team himself, outfitted with a special suit to stimulate his adrenal system to help his survivability in battle. Halcyon became co-pilot of one of Stark's ships as Iron Man and his "Space Friends" raced Korvac to Taa II. They barely failed, and the villain managed to tap into the Power Cosmic to attain godhood. Iron Man followed suit in a last-ditch effort that saw Korvac's defeat. The heroes returned to Earth, but Tony had become corrupted by the Power Cosmic. The Space Friends colluded with Doctor Doom to strip him of the Power Cosmic, but the plan backfired after they lured Stark into a trap, and he killed all of them, save for Hellcat, in a fit of blind rage. After snapping out of it, Iron Man relinquished the Power Cosmic and returned to normal, but not before bringing everybody back to life.
