You can submit an image using a .jpg or a .png. Please don't use a pdf.

Hello CPG folks,

I believe I have a variant cover of Cable and The New Mutants TPB, one with red lettering and background. Is there a preferred file type (jpg, bmp, png, etc.) for a cover scan?

Thanks,
OG Stephan

Apparently yours is a 2nd or later printing according to mycomicshop. comics.org doesn't show any other printings for some reason, but only says 'reprinted in 2006'. and I saw some on that auction site saying the red letter cover was a 1st print too, but they're probably wrong as usual. the blue ink cover is the 1st print, and mycomicshop says "2nd and later printings. NOTE: Covers on reprints may vary."

Yes, I can confirm your helpful research. The confusing part is that the indicia on my red cover version says first printing June 1992, which appears to be the correct first print run date. But the cover price is $16.95 which aligns with the 2nd print info shown on mycomicshop.com (first print cover price being $15.95 - a fat finger typo?). I mean, there are worse problems in the world - but I'd like to get this correct if I can. I'm going with the indicia of my red cover as correct and calling 'red' an alternate cover of the first printing. JPG upload to follow.

Many thanks - OG Stephan

ok. it can get confusing when they do multiple color covers, sometimes for 1st prints too, and the indicias have been known to be wrong on some later printings and they still say 1st print. cover prices often get typed wrong too, so you can't always trust a site has it right 100% of the time. could be the book was offered with a choice of red or blue lettering the 1st time, or 1 may be a retailer variant, but didn't see anyone call it that. time to call in Scooby Doo to solve the mystery.

I've been trying to upload cover scans of UK price variants, but I keep getting 'there was an unidentified error submitting this issue'. I've followed the guidelines. The covers are the right memory size. I haven't looked into dpi and pixcel sizes, could those be enough to create the error?

there's glitches from time to time. what format are you trying to upload? CPG prefers .jpg or .png. dpi and pixel size shouldn't matter, only the file size needs to be under 1500 KB. are you using a mobile device or a desktop/laptop? I haven't tried submitting any covers for a while so not sure how widespread this may be, but an admin can come along and help out.

Jpg, from my PC scanner. 1500KB is new to me. I’ll try getting the file size below that. Thanks!

Just tried with a Jpeg file definitely smaller than that, and in the recommended parameters in all other ways. Still getting the same error message.

We just tried it and the system is working fine. So we can do a couple of things. You can send us one of the files and we can check it or try to upload it. Secondly, sometimes a file is corrupted for some unknown reason and you have to start new. Use my name Ron @ (comicspriceguide.com) without the spaces or parentheses

That's very kind of you, thank you. I'll send you an email enclosing the file I tried to upload.

Jerrytel, let me know what it is and I can delete it. That way it won't count against you.

another thing to add to the rules is no pro-graded comics pics. Every once in a while someone submits a graded copy for the database.
And #3 could be updated, as now all kinds of comics have the company URL printed on the cover, so no choice.

This is the closes thread to what I want to say I copied the cover picture of every comic i own and put them on a price list in word, and now they all disappeared(I have a big red x instead of a photo, and i have to cut that and just put the titles. If you did that on purpose to protect the copy rights of the comic books,i think that is retarded, now i have double the work.

First off, thank you for helping us make CPG the best comic resource on the web. Here are some guidelines to upload comic cover scans to the database. If you don't see your scan approved within a 2 week period it might have not been up to par, please review the items below and make sure the scan meets all requirements.
First off if you are new to scanning comics, take a moment to read a quick step by step to scanning I have here at my website. You can also see some examples of bad scans that will not make it into the database.

Covers must be:
  • 1. Cropped properly. No background showing.
  • 2. No digital camera pictures.
  • 3. No covers with URL, company watermarks or logos.
  • 4. No covers with scanline patterns will be accepted.
  • 5. No covers scans with the comic still in the bag and board.
  • 6. No grainy or blurry scans.
  • 7. Adult covers with nudity must be edited with black boxes.
The only exception to the above rules are Golden Age covers.
We are a little more flexible with these, due to the rarity of getting a cover scan.
If you are scanning in your own covers to upload I recommend a 200 to 300 DPI setting and then resizing the covers to a 350 x 535-pixel size before saving. This is a standard I have used for a few years that makes a good clear scan without being a huge filesize.
Thank you for helping to make CPG the best comic site on the net. smile

That really sounds like a "you" problem, not a site problem.
You said you copied the pictures. I'm assuming you mean you downloaded them? So they are on your computer, not linking to the image on the site.
Have you checked for updates for Word? Or Windows in general? When was the last time you restarted your computer? All of those could play parts in why images you downloaded in a document you own are no longer showing.

Or, you know, you could search the internet.

I understand that the Display Case shows 40 of the most valuable comic scans in your collection, but is there a way to see all of the scans you have uploaded? Or perhaps provide the option to expand the display case to 50 or 100?

you can see all your uploaded pics under the 'my comic collection' link on your profile page, but they will be listed under each publisher, so you have to check each publisher, then each title. So no way at the moment I know of to see all of them at once.

Sirs & Ma'ams,

I just became a member and came across a bunch of Mad Magazines, in the #300 to 400 range. A lot of the cover art is missing for these and I don't have the option to upload a scan. I have uploaded a few to my collection, but I would like to add to the community. I'm in the process of resizing them all right now. Wasn't sure if I needed to be a higher level member, only a "Gold 1".

Thanks in advance!!

CPG has all the pics for Mad #300-400, they show for me. Are you searching on Mad Magazine, or just Mad? Just use Mad, CPG doesn't use the Magazine part. Sometimes the thumbnails don't show due to a glitch, but it gets fixed when reported. and anyone can upload pics. when you see the Missing Image thumbnail, you can click that and add pics in .jpg or .png format.

Hi, I am new to CPG and was trying to upload a scan of a comic book but it keeps saying it failed to upload. I read all the instructions about it here but it won't take the scanned image, a jpg that has been cropped to remove background and is only between 250k to 500kb in size depending on the scan attempted. I hope this is just a glitch in the system. I am just on the bronze plan but I understand anyone can upload an image? Thank you for any help.

Update: the scanned image uploaded fine to this forum however. I was trying to upload it to a box in my collection before which still doesn't work as of today.
