The server crash that you are no doubt aware of by now was a worst case scenario. A massive hard drive failure, a critical troubleshooting misstep, and a discovery of a failed backup mechanism.... all rolled into one. Needless to say, it has been a tough few weeks at the CPG offices.
We're finally getting back to normal, and our new systems are safer, more secure, more reliable, and faster. While our CPG main data was recovered easily, it was the forums and the old blogging system that were hit the hardest.
Unfortunately, after investing in several methods to recover the forum data, we are extremely upset to report that the data is irrecoverable. The backup process in place for both blogs and forums failed and the data we could recover was corrupt, so there's nothing more we can do.
Within the darkness, however, there shines a light. A major headache with the forums, blogs, and main site is that they were separate platforms with separate logins and separate data. This tragedy has allowed us to begin researching alternative solutions which allow for full integration of the CPG login with the forums and the blogging.... and we've found a new software for forums which we really like so far. You're staring at it right now!
So we encourage you to please help us rebuild what was once a bustling forum community. Post your questions, comments, and concerns. Share your latest finds and your comic convention triumphs. Discuss your favorite hobby. Discuss our favorite hobby.
Welcome to the new forums. We hope you enjoy them.

Thanks for the info. I have been a Navy IT for 20 years now, so I know the headaches that can come from crashed servers and failed backups. The truly unfortunate part is that in many cases, there is no real way of knowing that backups are corrupt until you actually need to perform a restore. But hey, the forum is back now, and that is all that matters. Great work admins!

I'm glad to see forums return to CPG! It's a shame that the old forums were not recoverable, but it is nice to see them come back to the site. The full integration is really nice as well!

The old forums were a bit quirky. Always having to choose subject line characters carefully so as not to confuse the software, and searching the forums for a specific thread was an exercise in futility at times. As a result a lot of topics would be doubled up in two or three threads with different names but the discussions would run practically parallel. I love our comic community, but it was a bit of a turn off to try and find a discussion that you participated in but you couldn't remember what it was called. Still, I'm looking forward to being a part of these new boards as they grow.

yeah, that software was...... lacking.
This new software is a little more raw, but we have all the guts and know how they operate, so we can improve it over the time. We didn't even know where to start in the tangled mess that was the last forum code

Didn't see any links for this on the profile page... So there's no 'forum settings' page yet? Will there be? Like for time zone, blocking users/messages, even getting private messages, format/theme etc.? No big deal, just wondering.
Also you should maybe list some more things in the 1st post that have changed, or are not offered yet but will be etc.. I see we can now log in with our 'usual' CPG login vs having a separate forum login. That's kinda buried in the 1st post.
I did finally find that clicking on a member's name and getting to their actual profile page you can message them thru the 'Message Me' link over on the right, but will there be icons for that ON the forum posts again? Not that I hardly ever use it, but handy when needed.
Thanks, glad you got the forums back up. No announcement on the home page though? Nothing under Latest News and Notes (I see it under Latest Forums posts sorta, but should be a message at the top of the page), blog link doesn't work, nothing on the 404 pages for the old forum URLs to note there's a new forum? Have fun...

Great suggestions here. I'll see if we can add some of them. We also did add a big announcement to the home page
Blogs are the next thing we gotta fix. All old forum pages should redirect here automatically now.
There are definitely some forum settings, but it seems we may have buried the link. I'll track that down

Thanks netstuffers. I don't go to the home page much, and I know now why I didn't see the 'announcement', as it was blocked in that marquee thing by an add-on. So saw it now after temporarily disabling the add-on.
I still don't find any 'extra' forum settings anywhere. Have clicked on 'Manage Account' when logged in, and my user name in my post, and 'my profile' and don't get but the very basic stuff. There's an 'edit' gif on the 'user name' page, but it goes to a blank page, even with the add-on disabled. http://comicspriceguide.com/forum/editprofile.aspx
May be something in Firefox blocking it? Logged in with IE11 too, and still nothing happens clicking on that 'edit' button except a blank page. Not sure what's supposed to open or show when that's clicked--a new page, or some drop down with fields to edit or what.
Tried logging in with my old forum password just in case, and it wouldn't work, as expected.
Also am supposedly subscribed to this thread to be notified on replies (it's on the list in 'my subscriptions'), and didn't get one when you did your post, or rowden's. No messages in My Messages under my regular CPG account either. So don't know if that feature is working.
Have fun... -Collectibleshop
