We have this comic, but know there was a reprint. How do we verify if this is the original or a reprint?

If it's the '1st Edition' reprint with the outer cover removed, you can tell by the dimensions of the book. 10" x 13.5"

This one has the cover and black and white on inside. Still not exactly sure.

More than likely it is the "Famous First Editions" reprint from the 70s. Like aarondawe stated, it is much bigger than a standard comic. Closer to the size of a magazine.

As everyone has said, if you can measure it and it's about 10x13, it's the treasury size reprint. https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/famous-first-edition/4_treasury-size/piwynr They had TWO covers, the outer cover says Famous 1st Edition on it and is a heavier stock. The inside cover is the the same as the original, EXCEPT some art elements are missing. The FFE reprint has only 1 bad guy flying out of the car, and fewer bricks flying about. See this thread with pics of both on the CGC forum: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/428289-whiz-comics-1-tell-me-what-i-have/
google searches would find you the answer too. edited by collectibleshop on 3/22/2022

I'm lucky enough to have found a coverless original in the wild, so I've been down this road already too clearing up what version mine was.
The black and white interior confirms it. What you actually have is the Don Maris reprint from the 70's. I also have a copy of this as well. It's still a very valuable comic itself in higher grades, but it's not the original, sorry.

the Maris reprint is listed under Whiz Comics #2: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/whiz-comics/2/woxulp methinks it would help if it was noted with the regular #1 too.
for the OP, here's the descrip from mycomicshop: "Whiz Comics #1 (Origin and 1st newsstand appearance of Captain Marvel, originally published in 1940) is one in a series of reprints published in 1975 by comic and toy collector Don Maris. While similar in format to the Flashback reprints published by DynaPubs (Alan Light), the Maris editions reprint different Gold Age issues and represent better reproduction quality. Note: Hit Comics #1, Plastic Man #2, and Silver Streak #6 are the only issues reprinted by both publishers. The Maris and Flashback issues have become very collectible in their own right. They also represent a very inexpensive way for comic readers to read and enjoy comics that typically sell for thousands of dollars. This Maris edition reproduces the complete original comic including ad pages, but all interior pages are in black-and-white rather than the original color."
so no retirement fund money. CPG values may be low, but I kinda doubt the asking prices on e***, based on the sold prices of other Maris reprints, but good luck if they can get those prices. edited by collectibleshop on 4/1/2022

Ok, I add the other two as alternate pub versions of the original and added some notes. Please take a look and validate it is correct?

yeah, that should help, long as people think to look under the variants tab.
