The copy that I have looks exactly like the one pictured in the database, except mine does not have a serial number. Is this a variant or something else?

There are newsstand and direct issues for most books after 1975. We are currently in the process of adding those hundreds of thousands of books. You have the direct version and is priced the same. R

I think that is listed incorrectly. I think the actual name is "Countdown to Ultraverse" It's a promo publication that they distributed several ways.
I'm not even sure it's a comic or whether it qualifies for listing.
the Mycomicshop website lists 3 different versions: https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=521471
My checklist shows three versions also, but has no cover scans.

I formally announced the third variant on my message board in March of 2009.
One is much rarer than the other two. The unnumbered one *might* be the hard to find one.
A little back story...
I helped some guys compile an Ultraverse checklist while discussing comics on my message board. After compiling the checklist, the guys tried to hijack my message board and make it an Ultraverse message board.
They were even going so far as to get creators to contribute information. The only problem is that I can't stand Ultraverse comics and hell would freeze over before I'd run a message board completely dedicated to them.
I don't mind compiling checklists and hosting them online as information for collectors, but I have no interest in running a message board dedicated to comics I don't like. It'd be like starting a chat forum for the Dallas Cowboys and everyone who joined started praising the Pittsburgh Steelers. That didn't go well with me.
I may one day add all the missing cover scans. My last update was all the Spanish language versions produced by Planeta DeAgostini.
Rather unintentionally, I know a hell of a lot more about Ultraverse Comics than I want to know.
