I love my big expensive keys, but I like working on runs between my mega dollar purchases. I don't really collect anything passionately besides comics, and I decided when I started collecting again in 2010 that i would build my collection by following whatever whims i felt while shopping. So far it's lead to a collection of over 43,000 comics, a bunch of complete and almost complete runs, and still a 35-page want list. Still much cheaper than my second passion, muscle cars.

Another aspect of collecting is that I've been looking at the same Silver and Bronze age covers on dealer displays for 30-50 years. I've read reprints of many Spiderman & Hulk stories.
There are some series I want to collect, but it's not what most people would think.
I want runs of the pre-hero Marvel monster comics. I have 75% of Tales to Astonish #1-101. To me, comics are overpriced for what I'm willing to spend these days, so owning them or not is no big deal.
I'd like runs of the Charlton Adult humor titles like Cartoon Carnival or 150 New Cartoons. Those are things I rarely ever see and I get a thrill to find one. VG or better and I'm happy.
Some Amazing Spiderman comic in 100's or 200's means very little to me, it's more work to sell if I get old. I have tons of space. I just don't want anymore volume. I've got comics I haven't even looked at in 25 years. I don't need more comics to sit around ignored.

At one point I owned a complete set of Dell Four Color Series 1 and 2, and had several of the variant editions (250 ish) as well. I also feel (quite strongly) that the missing Dell Four Color issues are not missing, but rather were numbered differently as the run came near the end. There is more about this in a blog article (link below). It is my conjecture (backed by the evidence found in the article linked below) that there are actually 1360 Dell Four Color Comics in Series 2. Adding in the 25 Dell Four Color Series 1 comics, that brings the total size of the run to 1,385.
Then I got a divorce. Sold them to Neat Stuff Collectibles. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...

I have another 50 comics below those
225 is so out of reach. This destroyed copy sold for a ridiculous amount last week.

Still last in line, but I'm working on it, lol.

My longest run atm is X-Men 88-310. (222 issues)
I stopped reading X-men around 300 and couldn't justify continuing the run when I didn't enjoy the book anymore. I found issues 88-93 at a flea market for like $5 a piece, otherwise I'd have started the run at 94.
My ASM run is a VERY close second- 130-351 (221 issues) If I had 129 and 50 I'd own 32-351. But those two are just too rich for my blood right now, maybe forever lol. I hated Carnage when he debuted so I have no interest in moving froward in the run either.
Definitely impressive what some of you have done here though with those massive runs!
