This new "Tomb Raider" movie is an origin story. This is not Angelina Jolie's "Tomb Raider". Angelina Jolie played a much more confident and super heroine type role. In this movie Alicia Vikander plays a true novice. She is young and still inept, but willing to learn... and learn quickly. In this way this movie fulfills the origin aspect of the Tomb Raider mythos.
In contrast to the "Tomb Raider" movies we have been used to, this movie is rather low budget. Most of the actors are British so this movie was undoubtedly funded from Britain. For the most part the accents do not get in the way accept in a few scenes when the actors talk very low. Since there is no big budget for this film, then this movie has to rely on good acting and a passable plot. In that regard this movie fulfills that purpose. This is a very enjoyable movie that makes do with a small budget. In many ways this movie had the feel of a 1960s style adventure movie.
Kristin Scott Thomas is the only known actor in this movie. At least to me. She is not in very much of this film, but by the end of the movie you see she will be featured in any sequels. And this movie definitely ends with the promise of a sequel. That is unless it bombs miserably. However, with what looks like a low budget this Tomb Raider does not have to make much money as in mega millions to showa profit. So in my opinion there will probably be a sequel.

They were not basing the film on the OLD mythos. They are basing this movie on the reboot of the video game. In that first game Laura is bot a seasoned adventurer. It was a cool game BTW. A much needed reboot.
Alicia Vikander was in the last Bourne movie and has won an Academy award.
BTW the cast is not mostly British
