Ha! Nice indeed. You lucky son of a gun! After Strange Tales 89 accomplished, what is the next big book you seek now? My two I'm saving for are Batman 92 (bathound 1st app) and Batman 121. Both I can't afford at this time but they are on my list.

I haven't really put that much thought into it yet. I've only recently considered changing my focus on keys (since space is a consideration now). I may go for some ASM type ones, since there are a lot of those. Perhaps that first Aunt May/Uncle Ben in Strange Tales. Of course, I have to save up some cash for a few months before I have to make that decision.

Space...the final frontier.....these are the voyages of collectors...finding space to store their collections.....

I have run out of space myself. Around 4,000 books and it is unmanageable. Has been awhile but I am sick figuring out where to put the next box not to mention single book. I would say I could get ride of 3,000 and just save 1,000.
As for saving money, I need to work on that too. As for Aunt May and Uncle Ben's first appearance, way out of my league of a book. Nice you can achieve such a book.

Apparently I have gotten over my phobia of paying more than $20 for a book. I still can't do purchases out of pocket, but if I make $800 selling crap on eBay I don't even think about it anymore.

I can fully understand that. Out of pocket I choke myself most often. After buying Batman books the past few years I have accepted buying books over $30 and don't flinch much at $60 for one book. Of course I'm more selective in the book I buy.

I have a hard time going over 20 a book most times. The one exception, I spent about 100 bucks on FF 48, but I had to there.

I paid more than $100 for my FF 48 several years ago, and I recall it being a really difficult decision. Of course, the book sells for a lot more than that now, so in hindsight, it was was a good idea.

I thought paying $60 for FF 52 at 6.0 was too rich 10 years ago. Hopefully the movie momentum continues with that one.

I'm the same way. I only recently went over $50 for a single issue (we won't mention bulk collections...) and still get the whole "Is it really worth it" feeling if I pay cash.

And space? Ask Kairi about the amount of space my collection takes up. At this point I have 44 long boxes.... My current shelves only hold 24. So I have boxes stacked up all over the suite.... I'm really not looking forward to unstacking those boxes to add more stuff to the boxes at the bottom.... So many issues that aren't even worth selling....

When I decided to collect Batman books from issues 150 to 260 I was bidding between $15 to $25 originally. A year went by and my bids went up to $20 to $35 to win the auctions for common issues. The 1st silver age appearances or let's say a Neal Adams book he worked on was above or way above the $25 mark.
I completed the little run of issues 150 to 260 a little longer than a year ago. Now if I tripped to do that now, $30 a book would be cheap for most in the grade I wanted. Batman books values went crazy. Now trying to buy issues 261 to 300 even those had a high spike now. So might just pick up one here or there but if not it won't bother to much.
As for Fantastic Four 48, I bought a CGC 8.0 for $505 years ago, before the second FF movie and it was the most I ever spent on one book, and still is. After winning it I thought I was crazy. Manic buying at the wrong time I thought. Looking now what a 8.0 sells for I think I won't lose money if I sold it. A year ago a seller had a raw copy in vf. Two other bidders bidding on it besides me, I got it for $230 thinking I was getting a good deal. When I got it in the mail, I was happy to see it was a vf book. I think I could get more than I paid if I sold it, which I won't.
Wow CapnDoug, that is a lot of long boxes. Kari must be a saint!

At my peak, I owned around 22 long boxes (none bagged and boarded). A few moves, and getting married knocked that down to about 4, but I'm now pushing past 6 now. Fortunately I was able to trade about 8 boxes worth with a couple of internet dealers, and that's how I built most of my FF and '70s creature/horror books.

I grabbed a few things to scan from my collection that I've had for years. When I first started collecting, one of my goals was to get one issue of every published Marvel title, so that's where these first two came from.

The Cat looks really good for a book that I never bagged and boarded for 20 years at least.

This one gave some concern over my goal, as the last issue became 'Gunhawk' -- did I need to buy that one too?

And this is an Australian reprint that a neighbor gave me. I have a Marvel Team-up one as well. B&W, with 2-3 issues reprinted inside. This one isn't even in the guide here.

Well, this thread has been killed by Photobucket wanting me to pony up cash to link to my scans. Any ideas on alternatives I can use? Photobucket was too slow anyway.

Photobucket was a pain in the butt, since it was so slow with all the ads. That's partly why I didn't post anything new for awhile. But now I can't.

Well that stinks. I posted in my thread recently using photobucket with no problem besides a ad every 5 minutes, nothing asking for money though.

I checked your thread, because you obviously have pictures there to see what the tags looked like, and I thought you were crazy to pay a $1 a day to show of your books. You could buy a nice key each year for that much. Now I suspect that it's being rolled out by Photobucket.

If I had to pay, I wouldn't use service. Wouldn't effect me since I only use it for here. I never paid. I got 55 pages of photos of comics saved there. I agree, I'd rather have a key book than a payment.

The only reason I go to the photobucket site is to find images I'd posted before a hard drive crash. I've been going through the posts on my messageboard and replacing all of the photobucket spam images. Strangely though, I've got one account through them where the images show fine.
