This is the only thread I could find on this particular book, so I figured I’d ask a question. I’m wondering why the main cover is worth so much more than the lenticular, Trading card and Mike McKone variant covers? They’re all 1st printings and I do understand that buyers decide what it’s worth but that much of a difference is kooky. I could see if Cosmic Ghost Rider was on the main cover, being its his first appearance and all, but he’s not.

CGC Graded Books With Blank Labels on EBay.

I was searching around in eBay for a graded copy of Dark Nights Metal #2 and ran across a few listings I found strange. The labels have a grade and white pages but otherwise blank. I have a feeling this is a scam and was wondering others thoughts on this? I wrote messages to two of the sellers and one has responded saying it was glare from the pic. I'll let you folks be the judge. These are screenshots of the pics they have on the listings. Edit: when trying to attach both pics from two sellers it was saying it was already attached so does that mean they used the same pic from online somewhere?

My only thought is the book you mentioned just came out or about to come out and some sellers are sending the books to CGC to be graded and selling books before they get the books back from CGC. So it is most likely a generic made picture showing the cover and the grade they are selling. I see this all the time.

My initial thoughts as well but the seller has it on hand and stated it was a glare that caused the label to show as blank.

Mr Twat, just use a search on eBay using “CGC PRESALE” and you’ll see many of the generic graded photos.

Mr. Twat is my dad, twatwaffle or just TW is fine. Lol. I understand that to be the case with them being generic placeholders for books yet to be graded or pre sale but the one seller did respond saying it was glare from taking the pic. Which is a bit suspicious as it's clear as day. I'm awaiting a follow up from him regarding a better pic of the label. The other seller did respond with it being a stock photo though.

As it says I found a version of this book that's exactly the same as the direct edition but it's missing the barcode in the lower left corner. Newsstands were still being made at this point but there basically the same as direct but the writing in the barcode is actually separated by the bar dice and they have dates. Or at least any other marvel issues of this time period are like that for the newsstands. I'm not aware of any being attached to toys or anythinsimiliar. Sorry for the blurry screenshot. Any help would be appreciated.

I have one and I love the bigger size. It makes it much easier to read and I love it’s spiral bound and lays flat.

Newsstand vs Direct

Newsstands which I collect are starting to garner more attention. Especially if they’re a first of key of some kind. I mainly focus on Post 2000 Newsstands as they’re much harder to find in high grade. So if you think they’re worth the same as directs let me know. Myself and others would be more than happy to take them off your hands.

Direct were sent to comic specially shops and were in most cases immediately bagged and boarded. They were sold to people hat were not only getting them to read but save them. They were much better taken care of as well. Newsstands on the other hand went to grocery stores, drugstores, dept stores, etc where most were crammed into a spinner rack and handled by countless dirty handed people. These were mainly bought by readers and not collectors and were not taken care of. On top of that newsstands were returnable for credit so cutting the numbers further. I love the hunt and the Post 2000’s in high grade are few and far between.
