I think somebody at the price guide goofed because this book was listed for $8 and it suddenly shot up to $300. They probably meant to adjust the price on the Caliber Press first printing. I was excited at first when I saw that because I own the Tundra press editions. Then I checked e-bay. upset

Eternals 1970's series Marvel comics

I'm looking at active sales online right now and this series seems like it is blowing up in anticipation of the potential movie. Issue 1 is all over the map- I see a few sales at 40 and 50 but a recent unslabbed sale just went for 125 (!) easily selling for almost 10 times what it's listed for in the price guide. Issues 2 and 3 have some modest sales as well and the rest of the series seems to be moving easily in lots as well. I'm not seeing much action on any of the newer stuff yet like the Gaiman mini-series but I'd imagine that could go up if the film were to reference it in some way. On the other hand, the film could NOT get made with Marvel acquiring all of the Fox properties and moving Eternals to the back burner, meaning this could all be a flash in the pan. Just a heads up for anyone that has these in their collections and might want to try and sell now.

These are still in the guide at cover price for the most part and I don't expect that will ever be the case again with these books. (With tons of room to grow if the option news ever pans out) Issue 1 looks about right at $150 but I think you need to take a look at the rest of the prices and adjust accordingly. I have been trying to put together a set of just the A covers and getting 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , or 7 below $40 seems pretty much impossible at this point in NM condition. And $40 might be an understatement for some of these. Issue 5 especially seems to be pretty scarce and is going for closer to $100 on eBay on average. And that's just the A covers. I had to put my blinders on for all of the variants or I'd be in the poor house.

ENIAC #1 and Bad Idea

I just picked up a first printing of ENIAC #1 from eBay for $125 and was wondering what the community here thinks about the artificial scarcity of this comic publisher (Not even in the comicspriceguide listings yet) and what you all think about the comic in general. The reviews seem to be pretty good. I spent the money for a few reasons-
#1- no comic store in my area was carrying the book.
#2- the Hero Trade ashcan they put out six months ago sells on eBay between 600-1000 when it sells.
#3- ENIAC #1 is the first comic by a brand new publisher, and if the company succeeds the first printing of this issue should always retain value. If they fail...err...I also own the entire run of DEFIANT comics, so I know how that works. (Prob paid the same amount for that run when it originally came out too
#4- There will never be any true second or third prints. The first print has the logo in white, all future prints will be basically made to order with a black logo and a mark that says "Not First Printing". This means the second prints will always be worth exactly cover price while the first prints (Which were intentionally made rare to make suckers like me throw down big bucks) will be the books collectors chase.
*******DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF BUYING THE BLACK TRADE DRESS NOT SECOND PRINT COVER FOR MORE THAN COVER PRICE!*********

Anyway, I noticed nobody was discussing these books here so I figured I'd add my two cents on them. The book is written by Matt Kindt (Who had BRZRKR come out the same week), and he is a pretty solid writer so fingers crossed its somewhat with the hype. Basically this company has made a statement that they will only release five titles a month going forward and all will have limited first prints with much more obtainable "Not First Prints". You can only get them through your LCS if they agree to some of Bad Idea's out there demands. The Bad Idea website has a list of participating comic shops if you are interested. https://www.badideacorp.com

Personally, I am only spending big on ENIAC 1 for speculation purposes and if the book is good will follow it in the second prints unless I can get my LCS to order it. I mostly spend money like that on older books but again for the reasons I specified above, I broke bad and my wallet for this one. Anyone else out there able to get a first print at their shops? VERY JEALOUS

Assuming the print runs are as high as are being reported (600,000+ which is the most copies printed of a comic book since Star Wars 1 in 2015 is what I read) this book COULD end up being like 90's books- not worth much due to the high quantity available. (making the rarer variants perhaps more coveted) I picked up the A cover (Which looks great IMHO) for cover price and will prob stick around for the entire run unless it is obnoxiously bad at some point. I'm leaving the variant cover speculation risk to others on this book though. The only series I currently buy variant covers for in addition to the regular one is Ice Cream Man because I absolutely love them.
Issue 1 was ok enough to see where they go with it. The suped up violence kind of reminds me of what Mark Millar and Romita Jr. were originally going for with Kick-Ass only with a clawless Wolverine/Eternal warrior as the lead. I can see the violence for sure turning off many of the people that pick up issue 1 though. It's going to be interesting seeing where it goes.

That signed 1 in 1000 variant though! If I had enough money lying around to justify buying that I think I would just try for a low grade ASM 129 instead!

This is the "Not First Printing" with the black title top. Bad Idea will be reprinting this to meet demand so it is not recommended that anyone spend more than cover price on this book. All future printings will say "Not First Printing" and be indistinguishable from all other printings after the first. If you check eBay now people are spending up to $50 on this book and getting completely ripped off.

Pence Comics

drsettleton
drsettleton
Just picked up Amazing Spider-Man #50 the pence variant in anticipation of Kingpin returning to the MCU and noticed the price guide does not list pence variants the same as it does Canadian price variants. Having researched the pence variants before making this purchase and reading the excellent analysis done here at Rare Comics
It is clear that the pence issues of these books are indeed Marvel produced comic books printed in the USA, not an "alternate publisher variant" as this book is currently listed at comicspriceguide. These issues were printed on the same printers used for the dollar versions, only substituting the plates to indicate pence for UK distribution. These books allegedly were printed BEFORE the dollar issues were made in an effort to get them shipped overseas to arrive on time, making them true first prints in every sense. Please list these books similarly to the Canadian Price Variants already in the price guide so that they will show up in the USA list for easy reference!

Warrior Magazine on the rise

drsettleton
drsettleton
With the return of Miracleman in full swing at Marvel there appears to be some interest online in people putting together runs of Warrior Magazine 1-26, which contain the first appearances of Marvelman (Miracleman) and V for Vendetta.
The current prices in the guide are a bit low compared to what I'm seeing as I recently put together a mid grade collection myself. Finding any of these issues in VF+/NM condition is very difficult as these books are oversized and require specialty made bags and boards that most collectors selling them just don't have, causing the tops of the books to be bent or dinged. Regular magazine bags and boards are not tall enough to fit these books. I ordered some from a UK seller and am waiting for them to arrive- it cost me roughly $50 for 40 bags and boards, so they can be expensive.
The result is that the majority of sales appear to be in VF condition at best for the most part, with zero graded copies to be found on eBay outside of issue 1, which had three recent sales: a 4.5 for $370, a 7.5 for $760 with 29 bids, and a 9.0 with a best offer accepted somewhere below $3,400. Issues 2-17 seem to be selling in the $10+ range, while the later issues, 18-26 are averaging closer to $20 due to relative scarcity. Marvelman (Miracleman) stops appearing as of issue 22, though V for Vendetta runs all the way through 26.
Checking the CGC census it seems there are only 160 graded copies of issue 1 with only 9 (NINE!) over a 9.2. Issue 2 only has 8 graded copies (1 copy graded higher than 9.2) and most of the issues after that have either 1 or NO GRADED COPIES. This would seem to indicate that high grade copies are rarer and would certainly sell for a premium were they to ever show up on the market. The last two issues, 25 and 26, seem especially scarce in any grade.
Buy it now prices from sellers are inching towards that $50 range for later issues, but auctions will certainly provide you better results if you are persistent and can be patient. Issue 1 seems to sell cheaper in lots than it does on its own so prospective buyers looking to get in on Warrior might save money overall that way.
Anyone else out there picking up these issues?

In the future could you expand "Top Information"?

drsettleton
drsettleton
I've been separating out expensive books from my collection but have been hampered a bit by your "Top Information" feature which only shows me the top 25 books of a given publisher. This works fine with most publishers but as my collection is primarily Marvel the top 25 is a fraction of what I'm looking for. Is there any way this can be expanded to feature more issues? 50 would be a start better than 25 but unlimited would be ideal.
Also a few new ways to make lists would be welcome, such as being able to organize books by release date. Somebody asked me what my oldest comic was and it took a lot of poring over the site to figure it out. I didn't see an easy way to retrieve that information without manually checking each run. Thanks for your time

Supreme 41 second printing by Maximum Press

drsettleton
drsettleton
Title: Supreme
Missing Issues: Variant Cover D?
Country: USA
Publisher: Maximum Press
Publication Years: 1996
Cover Price: $2.50
Second Printing of #1 by Image Comics (the covers are identical, both even have the Image logo- the second print has a green tint and says "SECOND PRINTING. Published by Maximum Press" in the inside indicia)

Extra information for those that are interested...

Another oddity to this issue is that the Image edition is a flip book with a special preview of the New Men comic on the reverse. The second printing replaces all of those pages and the back cover with ads.

ALSO- this book was most likely printed in either 1997 or 1998 as the ads in the book have copywrite indicias from 1997. The indicia inside the front cover only says copywrite 1996.

This book can be seen here -https://www.progressiveruin.com/2015/03/09/how-green-was-my-supreme/

I only found one recently sold on eBay and none currently listed for sale. Here's what they wrote in that listing-

Released by Image Comics in August 1996, this Limited-Edition, 36-page, 2nd Print Copy of 'Supreme #41-Variant Cover D' features Supreme (Ethan Crane) and more in a great full-length Original Story written by Alan Moore ('Watchmen', 'Swamp Thing', 'V For Vendetta') and illustrated by Joe Bennett & Norm Rapmund, has a cool Supreme Variant Homage Cover by artist Jerry Ordway, is in NM/Mint Condition, is bagged & boarded, has a Low Print Run and is a must have for any Supreme, Alan Moore or Image Comics collector or fan!
If anyone else in the community knows anything else about this I would be interested to hear it.
