Always King Kong

This happens when one of our alert systems is triggered. When someone is using our site with some type of scraping device or some script the Kong kicks in. Sometimes users don't know what they can do and what they cannot do with our data. In our terms of use, you cannot use a computer-generated search, build a script that downloads our data, or scraps data. My guess is that you were using some type of computer searching since scrappers don't want us to know their names.
This is obviously a serious issue for us since rivals are always trying to steal our data to catch up. If you feel like this was in error we can temporarily override it. But if it happens a second time, your account and IP will be permanently banned from the site. Ron |

Issue with uploading Cover Scans
RonbatmanAdministrator

Just to eliminate this part of the equation. There are a couple of things that could cause this. 1. Type - Our system only accepts .jpg .png and .gif 2. Size - 5MB max limit - 2 or 3MB is better 3. Dimensions - Less than 1.2k 4. A possible programming issue on our side that would require attention. Can you check your variables first and let me know? |

Because of obvious manipulation, we will not be providing a value for that issue. When the market comes into balance and the price manipulation is finished we will add a value. Be careful out there collectors.

Discrepancies in value

The comic title you listed doesn't exist so that's the first step. Open the book up and look at the small print for the title.
To answer your question, there is a wide range of prices and values. Some companies use the highest price regardless of the other values. For example a 9.6 might have sales of 2000, 950, 900, 850. Some companies will say it's worth 2000 others say that highest number is out of the standard deviation and shouldn't be considered. That makes the value 900. You might think this is a crazy example but we see it all the time. Some dishonest dealers try to manipulate the market and drive prices up.
Another reason is that every price change costs money to make happen. Either a person has to go in and review the data or an API feed (from Ebay or someplace else)has to be run for an issue or title. The more api feeds you get the more expensive it is.
Valuing a comic is much more involved than most people understand. |

Two Most Visited Pages on Comics Price Guide
RonbatmanAdministrator

We keep track and Google keeps track of the most visited pages. Shocking no one the most used page on the site is the search page. You can search by UBC, ISBN, title, or even scan books with the app.
The next page most visited page is the value change page https://comicspriceguide.com/value-changes/
If you're a free member you can see 2 changes, if you're a paid member you can currently see 1543 recent changes. This page changes daily with older changes dropping off. This only shows the raw 9.4 changes so graded changes don't specifically show up. However, you know what titles we are working on and it's safe to assume that the graded values are changing too.
We are working on some changes to the site that I think you'll love, not like, LOVE. Stay tuned as our programmers and designers work their magic Ron |

Search Problem
RonbatmanAdministrator

This is related to scraping data. Spiderfishman you were using some type of automated search that was flagged by our system and then manually checked by a real person. If you think this was in error please send an email to customer service.
Since a certain competitor has arrived on our street, we have seen a huge surge in scrapping data. Any attempt to scrape data will result in being "Konged". Because we are still the King. (see what I did there) Ron |

Ok, so let me make sure I understand what you're saying...
The value changes on the sitewide page https://comicspriceguide.com/value-changes/
Are not showing up on your personal value changes? https://comicspriceguide.com/gains-drops/
I looked at mine and they are showing correctly. Can you give me a specific example? I'd like to research it and task our team with a solution. Thanks, Ron |

I wonder if the value changes you are seeing and the collection total differences are related to how we change values.
For example, let's say Black Panther 2 goes up in value from $50 to $100 in an NM. The automation suggests $75 and it's changed then a price analyst goes in and sees that a more realistic number is $100. What you will see is the last change from $75 to 100, not $50 to $100 since that was the last 2 changes.
The book value change would show a $25 increase while your total collection went up $50.
This year we've done more value changes than ever before and our goal is to expand that number. In the coming months, we will be improving our system and trying to show our gold members more information. Ron |

Spider-man #1 1990 series - In Bag vs out of bag
RonbatmanAdministrator

Early on there was a premium attached to keeping the book in the polybag. As collectors have gained knowledge about the polybag and the problems that it can cause, they are removing the book from the bag. For example, if you leave it in the bag, you will have a crease on the back cover where the polybag is doubled up. So the longer you leave it in the bag the more likely that it isn't near mint. It cannot be graded in the bag by a third party or by a collector. The bag isn't acid-free so it will harm the book over time. Overall, I think it's a horrible idea to keep them in the polybag but every collector can choose for themselves.
I remove issues like this from the polybag and save the bag. Ron |

New User Dashboard
RonbatmanAdministrator
|
We are in the final stages of a new dashboard for every user. This was my vision earlier this year and Bryce has worked for months on it. Since we have so many new users we wanted to bring everything together in one place and add some fun stuff. We are always trying to make incremental improvements so this page won't be in its final form but fully functional. Once you sign in to the site, you will be taken to the dashboard where you can basically access anything that you want to do from a single page. I think it's fantastic and intuitive. I hope you feel the same when it goes live.
In the coming days, we will need some beta testers to make sure all of the functionality works, hear your thoughts and suggestions. If you would like to be a part of this test please let me know in the comments below. Ron |
