As a fairly new person here, I was definitely attracted to the site for the price guide. I am on many other forums and sadly this is the most desolate forum I have come across in a long time. As I am post crash and I have been hearing of this great upgrade, I am hanging on in hope and anticipation. I am a paid member (silver) and would really like to enter more of my comics, but .... should I .
I have been entering info at a rapid pace and am also having that irritant happen, known as the Creator is in the Qeue.
Hopefully I can add a small amount of what-not, to this forum.
Cheers !
The "What-not" is welcome. As noted here - check elsewhere on on comics prices from 1950s - 1970s. There are a fair amount of difference between this guide, Overstreet and elsewhere. when the $ go up, double check!
Just my opinion.
Oh no, I am off my own topic. OHhh NOoo Mr Bill!!!!!

If your collection is truly this nice, you may consider approaching metropolis to sell them at auction. You will have to pay a commission of course, but I think your books would go to homes of collectors, and not re-sellers. It would also remove some hassle for you, in that you would not necessarily need to have them "CPG certified" and encapsulated. I think grading set by Metropolis would be recognized and respected.
Generally agree - if quality is there dealers will offer money for collection. Be aware they will offer wholesale prices - likely not more than 50% of guide value (what THEY determine as guide). They are buying to re-sell. They have employees to pay, rent, other overhead.
If you want to sell direct to collectors you might try taking some of collection to one day comic show. Suggest start small, reputable show. Attend one show before you commit. This is slow and take a good deal of work. ( A lot, lot, lot of work - I know). Or take low value items to local Flea Market.
Alternate is eBay - this is also a lot of work. Sell through rate is small percentage. Way too many sellers and very few buyers.
Alternate is push here and other places on classified ads. This is easier but slow. See ads at CPG by Buttonman. Also check "comicsforsale.com"
Be wary of those dealers who offer to "travel anywhere" to make you an offer. Their expenses will be built into price.
I wish there was a better way to connect buyers and sellers - if you find a better way than I have listed, let me know - I'd go for it. |

This feature used to be available here at CPG. Suggest you email the admins to lobby to bring this function back If they get tired of hearing it, perhaps they will move to top of priority list.

I am also curious about buying and selling comics. i recently inherited a decent collection (about 350) and am in process of imputing them into the collection here on this site. quite amazed at the value of some, though i wouldn't want to sell the inherited books for sentimental reasons. I how however found that i really enjoy learning about the comics, especially silver aged ones. So i hoped on Ebay and have purchased 2 comics. Flash Gordon #5 they say its graded at 9/9.2 and i paid with shipping $12.35 and also Action Comics #322 which i'm thinking will be a grade 3/3.5 with shipping i paid $8.99 for. I think i'm on target for both maybe a little under for the Flash Gordon #5.
My question is though surly shipping cost must mean either the buyer is over paying or the seller is losing out. How do you all navigate shipping costs when valuing your comics?
Fang
Values on graded comics are quite tricky. Even here at CPG - maybe the only place on the web with a graded comic price guide - they can still be off from what actual sales are. You might check the big auctions like Comic Connect and Heritage to see actual values people are bidding on graded comics. The graded guide here is good - but prices - especially on silver age comic - can vary a lot from price listed here. Of course, one auction is only one sample price - not an average over time.
Often CPG is conservative on graded prices. I think I'd rather them be conservative than on the high end.
Just my opinion. KDS |

CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #144THE FIRST MEN IN THE MOON

good article link from Def1.
Simple answer - HRN stands for "Highest Reorder Number". On the back cover of the cover there is a list of Classics Illustrated titles by number. On most comics - there is a copyright date for the publication. For Classics Illustrated - there is only the original copyright date of the material and the re-order (or reprint) number. Comics were reprinted many times - generally the higher the number the less the value. Numbers above 150 are very common. (i.e. reading material - no money!). This is true even for comic printed in 1960's you think might be valuable - probably not as valuable as you might guess.
Prices on classics illustrated are all over the place depending on story and re-order number. Suggest you check guide carefully. Valuing Classics Illustrated comics is not for the faint of heart. Just my opinion.

Hi everyone! New to the forum. After numerous years of being out of the comic book game, I've found myself sucked back into my childhood hobby. How bad does the black check mark on my Amazing Spider-man #6 affect the grade/value?

Marking generally put the comics in the 4.0 grading area - but also depends on other factors. Also depends on how nice the interior pages are, spine, etc. With rip you are looking a t 4.0
Cool book anyway. Just old enough you night think about getting cleaned and tear fixed professionally. Send directly to me so I can assess better!

New CPG - Values

TQWorld wrote:
Hi folks, new to the site and leveraging it primarily to manage my own collection and not for buying/selling at this stage. Economics has never been my cup of tea so this might be an easy one to answer.
My question is regarding the values CPG places for any given issue. What is the true value for a comic (or anything, really)? To me, and this could be where I'm getting hung up, the true value of a comic is only what someone else is willing to pay for it. I could easily claim that my issue for Zoink #1 is worth $200 but if no one is willing to pay more than $1, then it really is only worth $1.
Where I am going with this: CPG has rated a book at $15 for 9.8. Sellers on eBay as well as brick-and-mortar comic shops are listing the book for $50 and auctions typically top out above that. So would this not give the book a value of somewhere closer to $50? I realize there are sellers who over-charge and also buyers who are over-eager to get a book and sometimes buyers are simply financially well-off and don't concern themselves with the price. But, that begs the question (at least in my mind) why are the values of some books on CPG lower than what the books are consistently selling for?
Thanks in advance.
As Ox noted - this is a guide not a bible. This is only one guide - you can check more than one online. You can check Overstreet prices elsewhere on the web - suggest you check Comic Book Realms and MyComicShop.com. These are much better indicators than eBay.
On eBay I suspect folks put free listings there simply for the advertisement of themselves and their store.
Again - this is one guide - and is usually fairly conservative on pricing. In some cases downright on the low side, as they take into account big dealers selling inventory cheap.
Just my opinion.

Good Suggestion - this would be nice to have. There are several improvements we would like to see.
Personally I favor export of all comics for sale with my sale price rather than CPG price.I am not saying that my collection is better than others - but I am trying to by and sell here (anyone for a trade?) Another feature that I would find useful is export list of all comics wanted with condition/price I'd pay for the comic. Good discussion - keep 'em coming... edited by kds_comics on 5/4/2017 |

Books that I think are high risk investments due to over speculation IMO, New Mutants 98 --approx 275k printed and there are a lot of collectors sitting on this \wonder woman 98 (series 1). Guide value is way low, but market prices are over the top Fantastic four 45,52 (I just do not believe these are nearly as key as 48, but due to speculation they have been selling for as much if not more) edited by knparzival on 1/4/2016
Grenada - this one? http://comicspriceguide.com/collection/commercial-comics-co/grenada/1/torskw#_profileTab
Historically fascinating - unfortunately no significant collectable value. There area large number of 1960's and 1970's war comics about famous WW2 battles - unfortunately collectors are not as interested in real, historical battles as they should be. Definitely a novelty. I'd buy it if I could get it cheap - just for the "unusual" effect.

For now i would just leave it, Don't think it's worth more anyway.
Hope that helped. This variant edition is listed in other price guides, and it's just not a poly-bagged edition it also came with limited numbered postcard which was only available in the bagged version.
It came with a post card? Noooooo!!!!!!
You can find this item catalogued on "mycomicshop.com" here http://mycomicshop.com/search?tid=111141&pgi=501
I apologize for the sarcasm. This is a very common comic. Since this is Part #21 of "Reign of the Supermen" on sale in 9.4 for about $2, I fail to see how the postcard adds significant value. .So you have to ask yourself - how badly would one want a post card?
It's cool - just not any real value, IMHO.
