Just wanting to follow up here. I'm the one who has uploaded this variant that no one seems to be able to find. I'll try to upload a better quality image. If anyone else has advice, I welcome it. Otherwise, can someone tell me what I need to do to get this variant shown here so I can tick it in my collection? Casper has been incredibly patient with me, so my thanks. I apologize for any problems I'm creating, but also kinda hoping that this is an unusual or undocumented variant from my childhood collecting days. I've been trying to add corrections to over comic on the site as well. I like the community on this site--chose it rather deliberately. Best, RCT
if you haven't seen it or been told yet, this is the pic guidelines, although a bit old: https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic5-guidelines-for-uploading-cover-scans-to-cpg.aspx
something around 500-600px high is fine. scans are preferred (any friends or work have scanners?), but these days good phones can take good pics, but harder to get them nice and square for cropping. there's a bunch of free photo-editing sites you can find if you need them or you don't have a computer with one built-in or added to it.
so once you get a good pic and submit it using the 'report missing variant' feature, bookmark the page, and wait for it to be approved, or keep checking this thread for the notice, which they may or may not do, but casper and gilgandra are pretty good about that. |

Etiquette in responding to offers

Should I respond right away to the potential buyer acknowledging the fact that I have seen the offer but that I would like to wait to see if I receive other offers.
This. Always respond to an offer as soon as you can, even if it's to tell them 'got it, but waiting for other offers before I accept/decline' and give them the time frame you'll make that decision. Nothing cheeses people off more than making them wait for replies, no matter if buyer or seller, other than no reply at all. You have no commitment until you decide to accept/reject, so better to let people know you reply quickly and explain your decisions than to make them wait while they shop elsewhere. edited by collectibleshop on 1/14/2022 |

Appreciate it. I'll try the scan. Never been inclined to put my books in a scanner, but sounds like that's the way to go! Will use the missing variant link and hold tight. Thanks!
well, a scan won't hurt it, and it's not worth anything anyway. resizing the scan is the other important part. |

Thanks for the gentle reminder. I haven’t forgotten these two and took a break for them for a bit to help catch up on some of the other variant submissions. I’m going to pick these back up in a Cpl days. The WCA one I may need to enlist the help of some of the experts on here because I am almost out of leads.
I already have the updated variant submission so we’re good for now. No need to resubmit.
I'll suggest you or someone who's a member of the CGC forums post in their copper age comics forum ( https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/37-copper-age-comic-books/ ) and ask about the WCA ann 2 (include a pic of course). There's collectors there who have nearly everything or know about most variants, be it UPC boxes or cover art etc.. I tried some more searches and google image searches, but only find the newsstand, year of the reader, or a blank/black box version, which I'm not sure was published or was a pre-publication version. I was wondering if it maybe came in one of those repackaged multi-packs later on, lots of times they have 'exclusive' UPC boxes for some reason, but you'd think there'd be a pic somewhere by now. Haven't tried searching something like '1987 captain america upc box' to see what others may have that and give a clue as to how rare they are or how they were distributed. will leave that to others, got other stuff to do. good luck casper.. |

edited off the pic, it was of #1, not 8.
could be it's not in .jpg or .png format, or too big a file? edited by collectibleshop on 1/15/2022 |

man, I missed that what I attached is #1, not #8, der. got it off an e*** search for grendel 8 variant and missed that the result said #1. I find no variant for #8 other than the newsstand version, so can you attach a pic? #1 has a 1st and second print, but same cover, and CPG has both and the newsstand, so need to see a pic of what you have, or some link to one. edited by collectibleshop on 1/15/2022 |

can you post a link to the one you see on mycomicshop? for the 1986 comico series #8, I only see one #8 there, no variant. If you mean it's the direct edition vs the newsstand CPG has, then better to state that. I for one don't count 'newsstands' as variants, just newsstand edition. so got a pic off comics.org for the direct edition of #8 and submitted it ok. 'course, had to submit it as a variant or post it here, so submitted it as the direct variant. |

it's ok, but still trying to find out what 'variant' of #8 you're trying to get on here? have you checked the image's file name? others have tried to attach pics or upload them here that didn't work because of oddball characters in the file name that messes up the system, so wonder if that's the error message problem? so simple names like 'grendel-8-variant.jpg' work best. I had no trouble submitting the direct version earlier, so dunno why the system doesn't like yours. |

CPG doesn't use pics of signed comics generally. found and attached a pic of #2, apparently there's 3 issues, but others I found at the usual sites were all watermarked. e*** had a couple, but lousy camera pics. mycomicshop has info CPG can use too. |

I don't see it either, but Gil and glarimer, CPG doesn't normally list poster books since there's no story, just posters, so check with Ron. |

there are 1-2 online sources, I don't remember the names or have time to search (anyone hear of google?), but word is they may not be all that accurate, as that info may not have been kept or isn't public or findable by the defunct publishers now. do a net search for 'comic book print runs' and you'll find some. or go to the CGC forum and do that search, they have covered that subject a few times. https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/8-comics-general/ |

you just find one and attach it to your post, and an admin will take care of it. I attached a pic below for them to use. make sure there's no watermarks, and reduce the size if need be, to around 500-600px high is good. the publisher's website pics aren't always of the published cover, so best to check a couple sources to make sure things have bar codes that are supposed to, and other cover details that may have changed since initial solicitation. |

Great information. Thank you. was the book maybe The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books? Has several volumes covering A-Z, goes from 1938 to mid-'80s I think. amazon has some cheaper softcover versions. "In addition (to the photos), each series listing features supplemental information noting publication year, creators, scarcity guide, and more." Not sure if it has actual print runs tho, or how much info has changed since the internet came along and turned many collectors into sellers that made 'scarce' copies less scarce. |
