The run is here:
https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/thor/wcutb

Thor #1 has 2 issue's covers switched.

1B says Skottie Young Variant, but shows the blank sketch cover
1C says blank sketch, but shows the Skottie Young cover.

Sounds pretty similar to a lot of what I've seen from IG sales. Some are amazing and trustworthy, but quite a few definitely overgrade. I haven't used whatnot yet, though I've been seeing it for a bit gaining momentum.

I guess it's much like anything, stick with well known, trusted, sellers if you can.

CGC just did raise its prices.

The question I wonder is if CBCS will do the same or sit tight to grab more market share first.

Trade vs Virgin Variant Covers

For me I get virgin's when I really like the art. That way the title, etc.. isn't blocking it out.

Otherwise I stick with Trade's or minimal's mostly, easier to catalog/keep track of when everything is on the cover smile

CGC's pressing has been hit and miss as far as I can see.

CBCS does a great job with pressing if you send to them for a press and grade.

CPG here does a really good job also, I've sent books to Ron numerous times and always been happy with the outcome.

Joe at CFP Comics also does an amazing job, but everyone knows how good he is, so he has a massive backlog https://cfpcomics.com/

It does transfer the grade when the issue transfers. But I think that's a good suggestion regardless, would be nice to look at it and decide if you got what you paid for right off the bat.

May need to add them individually as variants. They're not facsimiles so variants seems to be the best option

Just checked all 5 of them. They do not, in the front or back indices, say what printing they are. They literally call it the slaughter pack version/printing.

Just added all the variants and covers I have (The David Mack virgin's) for the 1-5 slaughter pack.

Indices indicate Jan 2022 as the published date, just FYI. No idea what printing to call them though, or maybe just call them 1-SLP or something, I dunno.

To grade or not to grade

Truth is, the majority of 90's comics are not worth much. There was a LOT of issues from the 90's printed, print runs of some being in the multiple hundreds of thousands, etc...

Your best bet would be to go through them all here, see what might be worth something (if some of those comics are key books, etc...), and decide on getting graded/slabbed based on value. My guess would be, out of those 1000 or so books, you might grade 5-10, depending on what it is your family member collected.

CCG/CGC sold to investment firm

CGC QA has been bad for a while.

In their defense, as it relates to turn around times, it's not as if the competition is getting stuff back in any sort of quick timeframe. I have stuff in at CBCS that's been there almost a year as well.

A lot of that kind of stuff is forgiven for Golden Age books. They are "graded to a different standard" the writing is considered part of the charm. As long as the corners, cover, pages, etc... are good, most of the grading houses ignore writing.

It's similar for Silver Age with Comic Shop markings on the front or back as well.

selling books where is the shipping cost ?

To revise that a little bit.

As far as I know it's not "illegal" to ship books with ads through Media Mail (in other words no one is getting fined or going to jail), but it is against Post Office policy. With Media Mail they have the right to open your packages and make sure they meet those standards. It happens very, very rarely, but it does happen.

If they open your Media Mail and decide that what you have sent doesn't qualify, they will bill you (or whatever provider you used) for the difference between what you paid for Media and, I believe, Priority Mail.
