Problem Seller
RonbatmanAdministrator
|
We have several great sellers here on Comics Price Guide. I've bought from some of them and had no issues. They are great members of our community who help collectors.
Today, I was informed of a seller who had $1 on all auction and then never accepted an offer. That seller has had all their listings removed until they can explain what's happening. If no reasonable explanation is given, their account will be deleted. Technically, the transaction is between the buyer and the seller but if we know there is a problem we will step in to help.
I'm publically saying this (without using their name) because we want you to know that we are watching this kind of thing. We want this to be a safe place to purchase comics and to grow a great community. R |

What is Wolverine's first appearance?

So I have to ask, do you own 180 and not 181?
The argument is interesting and obviously those two books have switched back and forth over the years. To me, either one is a great book to own. A cameo is a brief appearance that could be in shadows but it could be a single panel of Wolverine. By definition only, 180 is a cameo to me. |

New Admin - ScottWesty

Since we have been adding Newsstand and Direct edition comics and UPC codes for our bar code scanner (in our app) we have been a bit overwhelmed. Those two items alone are a full-time job let alone pricing, new comics, programming, customer service, blog writing, etc.
So Scott or ScottWesty on the site is here to help. We have him working on UPC codes and approving data until we can put more responsibilities on his shoulders. Hopefully, he will be answering customer emails as his knowledge grows. It's not a glamorous job but our members need that data to find books or put them in their collections. Scott is an addition to our staff not a replacement for someone else. Please be patient as he gets up to speed.
Obviously, if you need me, I'm still here and active. We are just trying to serve our customers better. Ron |

Seller's comic grading

The feedback system has been in place for about 6 months so take that into consideration. Some sellers haven't sold that many books in 6 months while others have feedbacks in the thousands. We saw the need for more accountability from sellers and are continuing to build safety nets. I think our next step will be related to the responsiveness of sellers in answering customers.
We recommend using Paypal to pay for your items. If you have any difficulties work with the seller and then come to us. We've taken down all sales from sellers who weren't serious about selling, who didn't respond or were shady in their practices. Ron |

Newsstand vs Direct
RonbatmanAdministrator
|
I don't think most people fully understand all the pieces involved in this puzzle. (including me) This is my understanding.
Barcode information Barcodes started for Marvel in June 1976 Direct editions started for Marvel in 1979 A larger barcode was implemented in 1981 The first check digit was implemented in 1987 - 0 71486 02456 9 01 Marvel went back and forth in the early 1990s with different publisher numbers for themselves - 09281 and 71486 Marvel changed their publisher number and the 5 digits at the end in 1993 - 7 59606 02456 8 40811 (59606 = Marvel, 02456 = Hulk, 8 = check digit, 40811 = issue 408, primary cover, 1st printing)
Direct vs Newsstand Direct editions were rarer in 1979 In the middle 80s, the values should be the same Newsstand editions were rarer from 1990 on and treated poorly on the shelves.

Adding an issue to a collection
RonbatmanAdministrator
|
No problem.
Three ways 1. In-Depth way Go to the title - like Guardians of the Galaxy https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/guardians-of-the-galaxy/pkqthu Then click into a specific issue, like #1 https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/guardians-of-the-galaxy/1/pktscqu There are four tabs at the top, click the "My collection" tab You can add the book and fill in all sorts of details After that don't forget to click the green button at the bottom
2. The Fast way Go to the title - like Guardians of the Galaxy https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/guardians-of-the-galaxy/pkqthu Click the green button to the right of every issue you have. You will see green text appear on the left that says "You own 1 issue"
3. Super Fast way
Go to the title - like Guardians of the Galaxy https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/guardians-of-the-galaxy/pkqthu
On the lower right side you will see a button that says "add run" So if you own 1 through 50 you can add them all in a few seconds. Ron |

I agree with Imcubillo. It can get expensive so you start with the most valuable or sought after books. You can save on shipping by going to a convention that has CGC or CBCS attending but then you have the cost of the show. |
